Senior Registered Nurses – ICU (Adult) and Emergency Department
The Senior Registered Nurse plays a vital role in enhancing both patient experience and staff satisfaction within the Emergency Department. This position is accountable for ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, and efficient nursing care while fostering a cleaner, more comfortable, and patient-friendly environment at King’s College Hospital (KCH). The role involves providing leadership and support to clinical and direct care staff, acting as a professional role model, and collaborating closely with the multidisciplinary team to maintain the highest standards of care. The Senior Registered Nurse holds shift responsibility for the management and organisation of the Emergency Department, ensuring resources are used effectively and that patients, families, and team members experience a visible, accessible, and authoritative nursing presence. By motivating colleagues, driving innovation in clinical practice, and overseeing support services such as cleaning and catering, the role contributes directly to improving both patient and employee experiences, underpinned by professional leadership and accountability.
Position Overview Senior Registered Nurse ICU:
The Senior Adult Critical Care Nurse will work collaboratively with nursing and multidisciplinary teams to deliver evidence-based, holistic care to critically ill patients throughout their pathway of care. Key responsibilities include advanced monitoring of vital signs, providing timely emergency interventions, and ensuring the safe management of life support systems. The Senior Nurse is expected to lead by example, uphold best practices, and actively contribute to maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and quality of care in the Intensive Care Unit.
Key Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate clinical expertise in the care of all patients receiving treatment at King’s College Hospital (KCH).
- Adhere to Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC UK) Codes of Conduct.
- Manage the nursing team and ensure adequate staffing is available for day-to-day operations.
- Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient needs, coordinating the care given by all members of the Emergency Department (ED) / Intensive Care Unit Adult (ICUA) clinical team.
- Accurately interpret clinical information about patients’ conditions, take appropriate remedial action, and promptly report changes.
- Act as an expert resource person to junior staff, providing accurate information, advice, and support to the multidisciplinary team (MDT), patients, and relatives.
- Ensure accurate records are maintained reflecting changes in the patient’s condition and treatment delivered.
- Keep patients and their relatives regularly updated with accurate, sensitive, and clear information.
- Implement clinical guidelines and actively participate in auditing practice.
- Ensure practice is evidence-based and contribute to the development of policies and protocols.
- Maintain extensive knowledge of hospital codes and procedures, including cardiac arrest, mass casualty incidents, fire, bomb alerts, missing persons, violent/aggressive situations, and infection control.
- Uphold high standards across all departments.
- Ensure safe custody, administration, and maintenance of drugs in accordance with policy and law.
- Promote safe moving and handling of patients and goods, consistent with legislation.
- Support continuous quality improvement through clinical audits and implementation of findings.
- Organize patient transfers within and outside KCH, escorting ill patients when necessary.
- Contribute to patient and family health education, ensuring appropriate advice and support for healthy lifestyles.
- Support the implementation of KCH nursing and local strategy, upholding the ethos of the hospital.
- Maintain confidentiality of both patients and staff at all times.
- Communicate relevant patient information to the MDT, ensuring actions are taken accordingly.
Education & Qualification
- UAE Medical Health Authority License.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing or
- Degree in Nursing And Registration as a Registered Nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia or Home Country
- Life Support Training Certificates
Experience
- Has worked in a hospital an Emergency Department / ICU or similar Acute setting for at least 5 years – Senior role for at least 2 years.
- Leadership experience
