Position: Senior Consultant – Obstetrics & Gynecology

Department: Women’s Health

Location: Military Medical City Hospital (MMCH), Qatar

Reports To: Head of Women’s Health / Chief Medical Officer

The Senior Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynecology is responsible for delivering high-level consultant-led care across the full spectrum of women’s health services, with particular expertise in advanced gynecology, minimally invasive surgery, and robotic-assisted procedures.

The role includes clinical leadership, surgical excellence, mentorship of junior physicians, and contribution to service development within a governmental tertiary-care setting.

Key Responsibilities

1. Clinical Care

  • Provide comprehensive obstetric and gynecologic care.
  • Manage complex gynecologic and high-risk obstetric cases.
  • Participate in consultant on-call coverage.
  • Ensure adherence to evidence-based clinical practice.

2. Advanced Surgical Practice

  • Perform advanced minimally invasive gynecologic procedures, including: Laparoscopic hysterectomy, Myomectomy, Endometriosis surgery, Ovarian cystectomy, Pelvic reconstructive procedures.
  • Perform and/or lead robotic-assisted gynecologic surgeries.
  • Support development and expansion of the robotic surgery program.
  • Implement standardized surgical pathways and ERAS protocols.

3. Leadership & Mentorship

  • Supervise and mentor Specialists and Junior Consultants.
  • Lead multidisciplinary case discussions.
  • Participate in clinical audits, morbidity & mortality reviews.
  • Support teaching and CME activities.

4. Quality & Governance

  • Ensure compliance with Qatar MoPH (DHP) licensing requirements.
  • Maintain high standards of documentation.
  • Contribute to accreditation and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Promote patient safety and risk management practices.

5. Service Development

  • Contribute to strategic growth of Women’s Health services.
  • Collaborate with anesthesia, neonatology, and surgical teams to optimize outcomes.
  • Participate in service line planning and performance monitoring.

Qualifications

  • Medical Degree (MBBS / MD or equivalent).
  • Recognized Board Certification in Obstetrics & Gynecology.
  • Fellowship or advanced training in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (MIGS) and/or Robotic Surgery.
  • Minimum 8–10 years post-board clinical experience.
  • Documented surgical logbook demonstrating advanced laparoscopic and robotic procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Arabic-speaking.
  • Experience in tertiary-care or governmental hospital settings.
  • Previous leadership experience (Unit Lead / Deputy HOD / Program Lead).
  • Academic or research involvement.
  • International fellowship (European / American / German Board preferred).
