Since its inception in 2010, National Reference Laboratory (NRL) has expanded from a single standalone reference laboratory to a network of 12 state-of-the-art facilities across the United Arab Emirates. NRL provides world-class diagnostic services to the M42 network and partners with more than 250 clients from a wide range of market segments, including private and government hospitals, medical centers and clinics, corporate organizations, and other reference laboratories.

The Medical Laboratory Technologist – Microbiology is responsible for performing microbiological testing, analyzing specimens, and reporting accurate laboratory results to support clinical diagnosis and patient care. The role ensures adherence to established laboratory procedures, quality standards, and regulatory requirements while contributing to safe, efficient, and high-quality laboratory operations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine microbiology testing and report accurate results within established turnaround times (TAT).
  • Process, analyze, and validate patient specimens following approved laboratory procedures and protocols.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment while ensuring proper documentation.
  • Perform quality control activities, validation studies, and support proficiency testing to maintain laboratory quality standards.
  • Prepare laboratory reagents, media, stains, and other materials required for microbiology testing.
  • Ensure compliance with CAP, ISO 15189, DOH, JCI, infection control, and laboratory safety requirements.
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with senior staff to maintain laboratory supplies and consumables.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, mentor new staff when required, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Technology.
  • Valid DOH License (or eligibility) as a Medical Laboratory Technologist.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a clinical microbiology laboratory.
  • Strong knowledge of microbiology techniques, quality control, and laboratory accreditation standards (CAP, ISO 15189, JCI).
  • Experience operating microbiology laboratory equipment and performing validation and quality assurance activities.
  • ASCP, AMT, or equivalent professional certification is preferred.
