Job Description

The Gastroenterology Motility and Procedure Nurse (RN) is a specialized Registered Nurse who is an expert in performing and managing a variety of sophisticated gastrointestinal (GI) motility and procedural tests. This role encompasses the entire patient journey, from initial education and preparation for the actual procedure and subsequent post- procedure care. The nurse collaborates closely with gastroenterologists and other members of the healthcare team to ensure patients receive exceptional, patient- focused care and the diagnostic tests yield the most accurate and reliable results. This specialized role requires a blend of technical expertise, strong communication skills, and a commitment to patient well- being.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and assist with gastrointestinal motility studies, including oesophageal manometry, pH impedance, anorectal manometry, rectal compliance, and sensation testing. 
  • Ensure correct technique application and optimal functioning of all motility and diagnostic equipment.
  • Administer breath tests, including Glucose/Lactulose Breath Tests and Gastric Emptying Breath Tests, in accordance with approved protocols.
  • Provide pre- and post-procedure support for Colon Capsule Endoscopy and Small Bowel Capsule Endoscopy, including bowel preparation verification and data processing for physician interpretation.
  • Monitor patients’ vital signs and physical and emotional wellbeing throughout procedures and recovery.
  • Identify and respond promptly to complications or adverse reactions, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
  • Educate patients and families on procedures, preparation requirements, dietary modifications, and medication adjustments.
  • Coordinate with referring physicians to verify orders, review patient history, ensure test appropriateness, and manage appointment scheduling efficiently.

Qualifications

  • UAE Medical Health Authority License (DHA).
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or Degree in Nursing (minimum two years course duration) And Registration as a Registered Nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia.
  • Has worked in hospital or similar setting for at least 2 years.
