Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety, quality, and integrity of cord blood products and laboratory procedures.
  • Receive, inspect, and administer incoming cord blood units and maternal blood samples, ensuring accurate documentation and compliance.
  • Coordinate with cord blood collection centers regarding shipping, transport, delivery, and associated documentation.
  • Perform cord blood processing using current techniques and standards, including volume reduction, cryopreservation preparation, controlled-rate freezing, and long-term storage.
  • Collect and prepare aliquots from cord blood units for quality control, testing, and storage.
  • Prepare maternal blood samples for testing, storage, and shipment to relevant laboratories.
  • Ensure accurate labeling, testing, processing, storage, and final packaging of all products.
  • Administer, file, and follow up on laboratory test results, liaising with testing laboratories to resolve incomplete results.
  • Perform routine equipment calibration, maintenance, and temperature monitoring, reporting deviations as required.
  • Conduct quality control activities, specimen analysis, and maintain accurate daily laboratory records.
  • Identify abnormal or critical test results and follow escalation and reporting procedures.
  • Support training, supervision, and competency assessment of laboratory personnel.
  • Assist in the development, validation, and implementation of new laboratory procedures and techniques.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable cellular therapy, cord blood banking regulations, and standards (AABB, FACT, FDA, NMDP).
  • Complete a minimum of 10 hours of continuing education annually in relevant disciplines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a related field with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or 10 years of relevant experience without a degree.
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) program with DOH licensure or eligibility(Hematology, Blood Transfusion, or Immunology).
  • Proven experience in cord blood banking, cellular therapy processing, and cryopreservation.
  • Hands-on experience with HLA typing (NGS) and Flow Cytometry for CD34 enumeration.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory quality systems, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to supervise, train, and support laboratory teams.
  • Strong communication skills with fluency in English and Arabic.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and laboratory documentation systems.
  • Demonstrated adaptability, analytical thinking, and attention to detail.
