Responsibilities
- Receives and gives nursing reports pertinent to clinical and administrative aspect of patient care.
- Conducts regular departmental visits so as to assess the needs of each unit.
- Supports head nurses or charge nurses in their supervisory responsibilities and always provides suggestions as to how patient services and quality of care can be improved.
- Reviews Nursing care plans to maintain the ongoing nursing process which includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
- Observes and guides personnel to ensure adherence to the established policies and procedures in the delivery of care.
- Makes environmental rounds with quality team to determine needs and analyze the compliance with quality and safety standards.
- Implements new formulated procedures and ensures uniformity of standards in the unit.
- Interprets hospital/nursing policies to nurses and other personnel.
- Evaluates the quality of patient care provided by the nursing personnel.
- Coordinates administratively with other departments.
- Laisses with all Department Heads on matters of patient care and personnel working in the unit.
- Maintains discipline and professional nursing ethics.
- Develops good and effective channels of communication with all personnel in the unit.
- Counsels and disciplines staff on matters relating to patient care and other relevant aspects of his/her work.
- Coordinates the orientation and evaluation of both nursing and Non-Nursing staff within the nursing department.
- Prepares Nursing Staffing Plan.
- In coordination with the Human Resources Department, ensures that all Nursing Licensure and registration are issued/renewed on a timely manner.
- Conducts Nursing orientation sessions and assesses Nursing competencies.
- Follows-up the recruitment of nursing replacements.
- Conducts & participates in the departmental monthly meetings.
- Knows the condition of all patients in all units.
- Capable of supervising Nurses in taking care of patients who are: Recovering from general anesthesia, Patients who are in shock, Patients whose condition is deteriorating rapidly, Patients who become violent, Patients who experience adverse reactions to certain medications.
- Decision Making in situations like: Any Sentinel events, During Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Emergencies during fire, disaster.
- Allocation of patient’s beds to facilitate organized system of care.
- Ability to transfer patients to another facility following safety standards and according to policy and procedures.
- Counter checks staffing in relation to patients’ census.
- Contacts the Total Quality Manager, Medical Director and/or Operation Manager for critical situations that require accurate decision making.
- Checks on patients’ medical files and makes sure that all entries are correct.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse with bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing.
- Valid & current license.
- Minimum of eight years nursing experience.
- Demonstrated managerial experience preferred.
- Fluent English.
- BCLS certified and ACLS preferred.
- Good knowledge of utilizing PC.
