A Telemetry Technician is responsible for continuously monitoring and interpreting in-patients’ electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) readings, which measures the heart’s electrical activity. This professional ensures accurate and timely transmission of cardiac data to the medical team, providing crucial information for diagnosing and treating cardiac conditions. The role involves working in collaboration with nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to maintain patients’ overall well-being.
Responsibilities
- Telemetry Monitoring: Utilizes telemetry equipment to continuously monitor and record patient’s vital signs, including heart rate rhythm. Detects and promptly reports any irregularities or abnormalities in the telemetry data to the nursing and medical staff.
- Equipment Maintenance: Performs regular maintenance and calibration of telemetry equipment to ensure accurate and reliable readings. Troubleshoot and address any technical issues with telemetry equipment promptly.
- Communication: Maintains clear and effective communication with nursing and medical staff, providing timely updates on patients’ telemetry data and any significant changes. Collaborates with healthcare professionals to ensure proper patient care based on telemetry observations.
- Documentation: Records and maintains accurate and detailed records of patients’ telemetry data, including any interventions or actions taken in response to abnormalities. Completes documentation in accordance with established protocols and regulations.
- Training and Support: Trains other healthcare professionals in using telemetry equipment and interpreting telemetry data. Stays informed about the latest advancements in telemetry technology and shares knowledge with the team.
- Quality Assurance: Participates in quality assurance activities to ensure the accuracy and reliability of telemetry data and adhere to established protocols and standards for telemetry monitoring.
- Patient Interaction: Interacts with patients to ensure proper placement of telemetry leads and address any discomfort or concerns related to telemetry monitoring.
- Privacy and Confidentiality: Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with healthcare regulations and ethical standards.
- Collaboration: Collaborates with other healthcare professionals, including nurses, physicians, and technicians, to provide comprehensive patient care.
- Emergency Response: Responds promptly to emergency situations, providing accurate telemetry information to support rapid decision-making and interventions.

| Education | Diploma in EKG/ECG technology or equivalent.Completion of a telemetry training program. |
| Experience | 3+ years of proven experience as a Telemetry Technician or in a similar role within a healthcare setting. |
| Certification and Licensure | Licensed in country of origin and eligible for licensure in the State of Qatar as Technician.Additional education or certification in telemetry technology. |
| Job Specific Skills and Abilities | Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting telemetry equipment is essential. Familiarity with Electrocardiogram (EKG) interpretation and understanding of cardiac rhythms.In-depth knowledge of telemetry equipment and its operation.Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.Ability to work in a fast-paced and high-stress environment.Attention to detail and the ability to multitask effectively.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for interpreting telemetry data and identifying abnormalities or irregularities.Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.Fluency in written and spoken English. |
