Roles & Responsibilities:

Clinical Practice:

  • Review referrals for clinical details and collect relevant information from the patient and/or guardian to develop a plan for the diagnostic procedure and assess its suitability.
  • Conduct complex ultrasound exams and participate in initial diagnosis and result interpretation.
  • Analyze, compare, and interpret sonographic findings throughout the examination to achieve a comprehensive result.
  • Perform independently routine and complex ultrasound examinations and assist the Radiologist with interventional procedures.
  • Select and review images to identify potential areas of concern and decide if the scope of the exam should be expanded, based on initial findings, and document this in a provisional report.
  • Conduct technical evaluations to assess the suitability of new ultrasound equipment as part of the tendering process.
  • Perform routine daily inspections of ultrasound equipment, maintaining accurate records of service, maintenance, malfunctions, downtime, and performance as required.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules based on clinical demand to ensure safe operation, address problems effectively, and conduct quality assurance procedures.
  • Prioritize workload based on the severity of the patient’s condition and its direct impact on their management.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all matters related to the hospital, team members, and patients.
  • Participate in developing and implementing Diagnostic Imaging Department and ultrasound operational standards, protocols, and procedures guidelines.
  • Create a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors by ensuring that Health and Safety Regulations, Radiation Protection, Infection Control, and Hygiene policies are complied with, understood, and strictly followed by staff.
  • Responsible for keeping the department in general and the ultrasound unit specifically clean, tidy, and safe, with awareness of fire regulations and security arrangements.
  • Promote safe patient care and a secure environment by proactively identifying potential risks and reporting any actual or possible hazards to department management.
  • Participate in ‘On-call’ duties on a Rota basis as required.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the department management.

Professional Development and Leadership:

  • Serve as a role model for all staff by promoting and sharing knowledge through mentorship and preceptorship programs in accordance with evidence-based practice.
  • Participate in mandatory training and actively pursue Continuous Professional Development, keeping an up-to-date personal record.
  • Keep up-to-date knowledge of current trends and developments in applications and techniques used within diagnostic imaging in general and within ultrasound in particular.
  • Maintain effective communication within the department by using appropriate methods, including organizing and attending regular staff meetings.
  • Participate in developing, supervising, and assessing training sessions and workshops to enhance the clinical knowledge of staff, trainees, and students.
  • Investigate and take appropriate action according to the Hospital Policy regarding complaints, accidents, and incidents.
  • Participate and encourage continuing professional development.
  • Be actively involved in the training and assessment of student radiographers on clinical placement, providing direct supervision at all times.

Practice Development:

  • Contributes to the achievement of clinical quality indicators, positive patient outcomes and patient and family satisfaction through extraordinary service.
  • Keep up to date with the hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Participate in service activities that contribute to positive patient outcomes, positive patient experience, and a healthy professional environment.
  • Lead under the guidance, support, and direction of senior team members, the development of programs or quality initiatives that seek to measure and contribute to patient outcomes, e.g. clinical auditing, performance improvement activities, and data collection.
  • Perform duties efficiently and effectively following best practices and management instructions, consistently delivering high-quality service.
  • Participates in clinical research and supports Al Jalila research initiatives.

Communication:

  • Interact with children, patients, and family members in a courteous, respectful, and helpful manner.
  • Interact with healthcare team members in a respectful way that shows respect, effective communication, and encourages teamwork.
  • Record all relevant information accurately, properly, and promptly.
  • Handle customer, team members, and patient inquiries courteously, effectively, and efficiently.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Bachelor in Ultrasonography from an accredited institution or in a related field, such as radiology or clinical technology.
  • Postgraduate in the specialty of ultrasound sonography, when the bachelor’s degree is not in Ultrasonography.
  • License: Sonographer or Radiographer License by Dubai Health Authority.
  • Certification: AHA/BLS or ILS.

Experience Requirements:

  • 8 years as Sonographer.
