Key Responsibilities Antenatal Care
- Perform comprehensive maternal assessments during pregnancy.
- Monitor maternal and fetal wellbeing using evidence-based clinical practices.
- Identify high-risk pregnancies and promptly escalate concerns to the Obstetrician.
- Educate expectant mothers on pregnancy, nutrition, birth planning, breastfeeding, and newborn care.
Intrapartum Care
- Provide continuous care and support during labor and childbirth.
- Conduct normal vaginal deliveries within the approved scope of practice.
- Monitor labor progression and fetal wellbeing using appropriate assessment tools.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
- Recognize and respond promptly to obstetric emergencies, including postpartum hemorrhage, fetal distress, shoulder dystocia, and eclampsia.
- Assist Obstetricians during instrumental deliveries and Caesarean sections when required.
Postnatal & Newborn Care
- Perform postnatal assessments for mothers and newborns.
- Promote early skin-to-skin contact and successful breastfeeding initiation.
- Assess newborn adaptation and provide routine neonatal care.
- Educate parents regarding newborn care, immunization schedules, family planning, and maternal recovery.
- Identify maternal or neonatal complications requiring immediate intervention.
Patient Safety & Quality
- Deliver care in accordance with DOH Abu Dhabi regulations, hospital policies, and international best practices.
- Maintain infection prevention and control standards.
- Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and patient safety programs.
- Ensure accurate medication administration and safe clinical practices.
Documentation
- Maintain complete, accurate, and timely electronic medical records.
- Document all assessments, interventions, medications, labor progress, delivery details, and patient education.
- Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with UAE healthcare regulations.
Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with Obstetricians, Neonatologists, Pediatricians, Anesthetists, Nurses, and Allied Health Professionals.
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, shift handovers, emergency response teams, and case discussions.
- Support junior staff and student midwives through mentorship when required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Midwifery
QualificationsLicensure
- Valid DOH (Department of Health – Abu Dhabi) Midwife License or
- Eligibility for DOH licensure (DataFlow completed and DOH requirements met).
Experience
- Minimum of two (2) years of recent clinical experience as a Registered Midwife in a hospital maternity unit.
- Experience in Labor & Delivery, Antenatal, Postnatal, and Newborn Care is required.
- Experience in tertiary or acute care hospitals is preferred.
