JOB SUMMARY
Physician – Cardiology, Electrophysiology (EP) in Pediatrics is responsible for the delivery of high-quality evidence-based care; effective and efficient diagnosing, managing, and treating all patients placed under the role holder’s care. The Physician makes recommendations, orders appropriate therapeutics and diagnostics as per the patient’s diagnosed condition. The incumbent is also responsible for providing guidance to less experienced colleagues. The post holder needs to be competent in all aspects of pediatric cardiology including neonatal and complex cardiac cases. S/he will work with the Division Chief to share the clinical duties, education, research, and some administrative tasks.
In addition, this role requires mandatory expertise in Pediatric Cardiac Electrophysiology (EP). The post holder is expected to lead and develop electrophysiology services for pediatric and adolescent patients, including both congenital and non-congenital arrhythmias. This includes advanced arrhythmia management, invasive and non-invasive electrophysiological diagnostics, and catheter-based interventions.
The physician will play a key role in running the comprehensive pediatric EP program aligned with Sidra’s vision as a tertiary center of excellence.
KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Leads the diagnosis and management of pediatric and adolescent cardiac arrhythmias (both congenital and non-congenital) across inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Performs and interprets advanced electrophysiological investigations including Holter monitoring, event monitoring, ECG analysis, pacemaker and ICD assessments and exercise testing.
- Performs invasive electrophysiology studies (EPS) and catheter ablation procedures in pediatric and adolescent patients.
- Develops and implements clinical pathways for arrhythmia management, including supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), ventricular arrhythmia, inherited arrhythmia syndromes, and acquired rhythm disorders.
- Collaborates with cardiac surgery, ICU, and anesthesia teams in the peri-procedural management of complex EP cases.
- Continues the comprehensive Pediatric Cardiac EP program, including device therapy (pacemakers, ICDs) for both congenital and non-congenital conditions.
- Provides expert consultation for arrhythmia management across Sidra and external referral networks.
- Contributes to the development of regional referral pathways for complex electrophysiology cases.
- Lead EP-related quality improvement initiatives, data registries, and outcome tracking.
- Support education and training of fellows, residents, and allied health professionals in electrophysiology
- Oversees the assessment and reassessment of inpatients and/or outpatients on a regular basis, in line with established best practice.
- Actively participates in interdisciplinary meetings to help plan effective, safe, and holistic care for individual patients.
- Reviews results of all investigations, develops and modifies treatment as required, proactively provides guidance to less experienced colleagues.
- Assists in supervising activities of junior medical staff and jointly assumes responsibility for patient care.
- Responsible for the delivery of high-quality evidence-based care and services within specialty area.
- Leads ward rounds, reassesses inpatients and/or outpatients on a regular basis, in line with established best practice.
- Regularly reviews results of all investigations and modifies treatment as required.
- Provides clinical excellence by effective and efficient diagnoses, manages, and treats all patients placed under post holder’s care.
- Delivers safe, effective, and holistic clinical services within accepted standards of care.
- Accurately documents all relevant clinical information in a clear and timely fashion in accordance with established procedures.
- Supports, implements, and follows all hospital, departmental and divisional initiatives, policies, and procedures.
- Liaises with colleagues, allied health staff, nursing, administrative and support services staff for additional input as required.
- Complies with all hospital polices regarding admissions, consultations, daily patient care, surgical procedures, discharge protocols, outpatient and follow up practices.
- Practices appropriate utilization of the organization’s resources.
- Demonstrates an active interest in educating and fostering future academic leaders nationally and internationally through active participation in education initiatives.
- Demonstrates an active interest and involvement in research by initiating innovative clinical or research outcomes or collaborating on research projects to support the Sidra vision.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Education
- MD, MBBS or equivalent
- Completion of residency program in specialty area from an accredited board.
- Completion of Pediatric Cardiology fellowship program in the specialty area approved by the country of training.
- Training/fellowship in Pediatric Cardiac Electrophysiology (EP) at least 1 year.
Experience
8+ years of experience post-certification/residency in Pediatric Electrophysiology field with a demonstrated track record of proficiency in catheter ablations and device implantations (Mandatory).
