Since its inception in 2010, National Reference Laboratory (NRL) has expanded from a single standalone reference laboratory to a network of 12 state-of-the-art facilities across the United Arab Emirates. NRL provides world-class diagnostic services to the M42 network and partners with more than 250 clients from a wide range of market segments, including private and government hospitals, medical centers and clinics, corporate organizations, and other reference laboratories.

The Phlebotomist will support laboratory operations by safely and accurately collecting blood and other patient specimens for diagnostic testing. The role involves providing high-quality, patient-centred care to patients of all ages while ensuring compliance with M42 policies, regulatory requirements, and laboratory quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and other blood collection procedures for pediatric, adult, pregnant, and geriatric patients.
  • Verify patient information and test requests and select the appropriate collection equipment and techniques.
  • Collect, label, process, store, and prepare blood, urine, and other specimens accurately and safely.
  • Ensure correct sample quality and quantity while following infection control, aseptic, and laboratory safety procedures.
  • Prioritize and manage STAT, scheduled, and outpatient specimen collection requests.
  • Communicate sensitively with patients, explain collection procedures, and provide guidance on specimen collection requirements.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and report any significant patient or specimen-related issues to the relevant healthcare team.
  • Maintain adequate supplies and support compliance with applicable regulatory, accreditation, quality, and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an approved Phlebotomy certification program and/or a minimum 6-month program in Medical Laboratory Sciences.
  • Minimum 1 year of post-qualification experience as a Phlebotomist.
  • Valid DOH or DHA license as a Phlebotomist, or eligibility for the relevant license.
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Strong knowledge of phlebotomy procedures, specimen collection and handling, laboratory safety, and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • UAE driving license is preferred.
