Danat Al Emarat is a world-class specialty women’s and children’s hospital in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. It offers advanced medical services across specialties including Neonatology, Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, and Women’s Health. The hospital is one of the very few to encompass a dedicated Fetal Medicine Department along with a full-fledged Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in the UAE. This has established Danat Al Emarat as a regional referral center for women with high-risk pregnancies,supported by its Level III NICU providing care for the most fragile newborns.

A Labor & Delivery Manager oversees the daily operations of the Labor & Delivery unit, ensuring safe, high-quality care for mothers and newborns while managing staff, resources, and compliance with healthcare standards.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee all clinical and operational activities within the Labor & Delivery unit.
  • Ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, evidence-based care for mothers and newborns.
  • Supervise, support, and guide nursing and support staff during routine and high-risk deliveries.
  • Develop and manage staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage and efficient patient care.
  • Monitor patient flow, admissions, transfers, and discharges within the department.
  • Collaborate with obstetricians, midwives, anaesthesiologists, neonatologists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and service excellence.
  • Monitor and evaluate staff performance, providing coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback.
  • Conduct staff orientation, competency assessments, and ongoing education programs.
  • Manage department budgets, staffing resources, equipment, and medical supplies.
  • Investigate incidents, patient complaints, and adverse events, implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Ensure adherence to infection control, patient safety, and risk management protocols.
  • Review and maintain accurate clinical documentation and reporting standards.
  • Facilitate emergency preparedness and response for obstetric and neonatal emergencies.
  • Promote patient and family-centered care by ensuring a positive childbirth experience.
  • Participate in strategic planning, policy development, and departmental goal setting.
  • Analyze department performance metrics and implement action plans for continuous improvement.
  • Support employee engagement, retention, and professional development initiatives.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and leader for complex patient care situations.

Qualifications

  • Valid DOH/DHA/MOHAP license as a Midwife.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of Labor & Delivery nursing experience.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in leadership role (Charge Midwife).
