Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) are healthcare practitioners responsible for delivering and organizing basic nursing care to individuals, families and groups within diverse settings collaborating with various healthcare professionals. LPNs primarily care for those with relatively stable and predictable health conditions. They can also provide care to patients and families with more complex needs in consultation and coordination with other healthcare professionals.            

Responsibilities

  • Practices autonomously, safely, competently, and ethically along the continuum of care in situations of health and illness across a person’s life course.
  • Refer the patient to a licensed RN if the patient’s condition is not stable or if changes to critical.
  • Provides healthcare services for the:
  1. Promotion, maintenance, and restoration of health, with a focus on patients with low-acuity, stable, and predictable states of health
  2. Prevention, treatment, and palliation of illness and injury, with a focus on low-acuity, stable, and predictable disorders and conditions, primarily by: 
  • Assessing health status
  • Planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting practical nursing care.
  • Administering basic medical care
  • Providing basic comfort care
  • Listening to patient concerns and discussing the care provided
  • Helping a patient’s family understand procedures and educating them on how to provide care.
  • Collecting samples for testing and performing routine laboratory test
  • Administering prescribed medications; monitoring and reporting adverse reactions to the physician or registered nurse
  • Assisting physicians and registered nurses in performing tests and procedures
  • Monitoring and cleaning medical equipment
  • Works collaboratively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to ensure continuity and quality of healthcare delivery. 
  • Accountable for their own practical nursing practice and seek assistance when the care needs go beyond their individual competence level to maximize patient outcomes. 
  • Demonstrates leadership by fostering continued self-growth to meet the challenges of an evolving healthcare system. 
  • Advocates for the implementation and utilization of evidence-informed practice.
  • Follows all Hospital related policies and procedures. 
  • Adheres to Sidra’s standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies.

This job description forms the basis of the requirements for the role. The incumbent may be required to undertake specific assigned tasks relevant to their area of work and are additionally required to demonstrate competencies specific to the post as outlined in the Job Description Addendum.

In view of the evolving needs and opportunities within Sidra, this position may be required to perform other duties as assigned and reporting relationships may vary.

Qualifications

 ESSENTIAL
EducationDiploma in Practical Nursing (2 years) after high school or Equivalent
Experience2+ years of work experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse For Qatari Nationals, offspring of Qatari women, offspring of residents, or graduates of Practical Nursing Program in Qatar, Refer to DHP Circular No.15/2022, and no. 14/2023. Exceptions to the experience requirement may be granted for Qatari nationals (internal and external candidates), with a reduction of up to two (2) years. [For a DHP licensable role, the experience requirements mandated by the Department of Healthcare Professions, along with the defined scope of practice, must be strictly followed.]
Certification and LicensureLPNs must apply for registration to Department of Healthcare Professions (DHP) and must be eligible to be licensed in the State of Qatar.Basic Life Support (BLS)
