This role is responsible to assist in the delivery of holistic care under the direct supervision of a registered nurse, or other registered clinician. The role should be able to communicate effectively at all levels within the interdisciplinary team and promotes a progressive attitude to the continual improvement of patient care through research, evidence-based practice and the developmental of additional clinical skills in the specialty within the scope of practice. The role should also support the registered nurse or other registered clinician in the safe, effective and efficient management of the department with allocated resources.
Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of safe, evidence‑based, patient‑ and family‑centered care within the Operating Theatre, in line with organizational policies, procedures, and scope of service.
- Assist registered nurses and clinicians with patient preparation, positioning, transfer, and post‑procedure care under appropriate supervision.
- Monitor patient condition before, during, and after procedures, promptly reporting any significant changes to registered clinicians and acting within defined scope of practice.
- Maintain accountability for professional actions, adhere to scope of practice, and demonstrate continued competence in Operating Theatre standards and infection control practices.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary surgical team to ensure coordinated, efficient, and individualized care throughout the patient’s episode of care.
- Support Operating Theatre supply and inventory management, including preparation, stocking, monitoring usage, and timely reporting of shortages or procurement needs to ensure uninterrupted clinical operations.
- Advocate for patient dignity, safety, and rights, respond appropriately to emergency situations per organizational protocols, and utilize resources responsibly in a cost‑effective manner.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Certificate in relevant field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Healthcare Aide, preferably within an Operating Theatre, surgical, or acute care setting.
- Basic experience or understanding of supply, inventory, and equipment management, including monitoring stock levels and reporting shortages in a clinical environment.
