Job Description
As part of SEHA’s commitment to excellence in patient care, the Genetic Counselor will play a vital role in supporting individuals and families affected by genetic conditions. Working within a multidisciplinary team at a tertiary care setting in Sheikh Tahnoon Mohammed Medical City in Al Ain, the counselor will:
- Collect and analyze detailed medical, genetic, and psychosocial histories to assess hereditary risks.
- Perform accurate genetic risk assessments for patients, their offspring, and extended family members.
- Educate and counsel patients and families on genetic conditions, diagnostic options, and implications, ensuring culturally sensitive communication.
- Coordinate genetic testing and diagnostic procedures in collaboration with physicians, adhering to UAE licensing regulations.
- Interpret test results and integrate findings with clinical history to guide patient management.
- Provide psychosocial support, helping patients and families understand and cope with genetic information.
- Document all interactions and decisions in SEHA’s electronic medical record system.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals through consultations, multidisciplinary meetings, and referrals to ensure comprehensive care.
- Serve as a resource for genetic health information within SEHA and the wider Al Ain community.
- Contribute to policy development, clinical guidelines, and ongoing research in genetic counseling.
- Support education and training of students and trainees in the field.
Educational Qualification:
BSc in medical sciences, psychology, or healthcare-related field
And
MSc in Genetic Counseling
Experience Qualification:
Two (2) years of experience post-MSc in a related field
