Cardiovascular Technologist – ECG

Job Description

This position is responsible for performing all electrocardiographic exams on patients at rest and with exercise, both in outpatient and inpatient settings, and accurately recording test results.

Performs following exams according to protocol:

  • 12 lead ECG
  • Holter hooking and reading
  • ABPM hooking and reading
  • cardiac event monitor hooking
  • treadmill stress test (autonomous)
  • ECG part of – treadmill and pharmacological stress echo, nuclear medicine studies

Responsibilities

  • Ensures that all information obtained is of high quality and accurately reports after completing exam.
  • Follows appropriate billing for procedures and turns in billing tickets by end of working day.
  • Cleans all used supplies according to lab guidelines and CCAD infection control policy.
  • Assists staff physicians and fellows in research projects and data entry.
  • Teaches theory, instrumentation and interpretation to other technologists, fellows and visitors.
  • Interacts with vendors to evaluate new company products.
  • Performs minor maintenance of equipment and contacts vendors when problems arise.
  • Ensures that room is cleaned and stocked, laundry is taken down each day and machines are wiped clean.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of two (2) years relevant experience in ECG, Treadmill and Pharmacologic Stress test is required.
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge of electrocardiography.
  • Proficient in the use of PCs, spreadsheets and other software applications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to speak and write in English is required.
  • Ability to speak and write in both English and Arabic is preferred.

Required Skills

  • Graduate of an accredited Cardiovascular program or Allied Health specialized program in Cardiovascular Technology (minimum two (2) year curriculum) is required.
  • Registration with cardiovascular credentialing international / UK registration council for clinical physiologists / the Canadian association of cardiopulmonary technologists or The Society of Cardiopulmonary Technology New Zealand or equivalent is required.
  • Current national license is required.
  • BLS is required.
  • Graduation from an approved Cardiovascular Technology of Clinical Physiology (cardiology) program leading to a degree of at least three (3) years diploma or a three (3) year diploma in Radiography is preferred.
  • ACLS is recommended.

Preferred Skills

Typical physical demands include: a high degree of manual dexterity to sufficiently perform computer functions on a keyboard, produce materials on a PC and operate basic office equipment, normal or corrected vision and hearing, extensive sitting, standing and/or walking, mobility sufficient to visit with departments or employees throughout CCAD and lift up to 30 lbs.
