Responsibilities
Technical
Perform electrocardiogram (ECG) recordings on adult and paediatric patient’s – inclusive of standard 12 lead and extended 15 lead variations.
Advanced analysis and interpretation of ECG’s
Perform and analyze ambulatory heart and blood pressure monitoring.
Perform and assist physicians during various stress testing protocols including treadmill testing, myocardial perfusion stress testing and tilt table testing.
Generate comprehensive clinical reports for physician review and sign off.
Prompt notification and documentation of critical results to appropriate healthcare provider.
Familiarity with computer based systems within the department – specific to the individual job role. (Malaffi,Talibi, Oracle, CAFM, Pacemaker database, Echo image archive)
Correct application of test results to the patient electronic medical record.
Assistance to senior physiologists/physicians during complex cardiac investigations.
Individual responsibility for maintaining continued professional development.
Actively participate in departmental training, audits and improvement plans.
General housekeeping within department – maintenance of consumables.
Correct storage and maintenance of cardiac equipment and monitors, referring to biomedical department when necessary in line with local policy.
Accurate maintenance of daily equipment calibrations.
Quality & Safety Conducting daily or periodic checks and calibration of equipment. Recognize report and advice on discrepancies in performance and initiate remedial action in the light of this information. To ensure that the equipment is used in the correct manner to obtain optimum results
Updating patient examination history file, recording unusual conditions/limitations, documenting examination time, room number, and technique factors. Recording any relevant clinical information obtained from the patient during the course of the examination that may be of benefit to the consultant when producing the report
Ensuring compliance with all safety and quality control programs and procedures applicable
Applying standard precautions for infection control, using a series of interventions that minimize or prevent cross infection, including effective hand washing/cleansing when appropriate, particularly on entering and leaving clinical areas and between each patient
Maintaining and assisting in enforcing a high control over infection, safety and health regulations and making sure that all concerned parties follow the same
Maintaining and assisting in enforcing the strictest confidence in relation to patient information whether formally or informally recorded
Education Mentoring and train other cardiology technologists and students
Explaining testing procedures to patient to obtain cooperation and reduce anxiety
