Description

The staff nurse is accountable to the Ward Sister for the delivery of high quality care of the patients at Dallah Hospital. The post holder is responsible for ensuring attainment of agreed clinical standards and professional development supported by colleagues and the Director of Nursing.

During the time period for which she is responsible, assesses the overall needs of the individual patients, assists in preparation and implements the nursing care process as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.

Day-to-day activities can include:

Apply monitoring devices such as electronic fetal monitors and other unit instruments.

Admitting, discharge and document patients data.

Give bed bath to very ill patients and prevention of pressure ulcer.

Serve and feed patients.

Participate in the development and implementation of education programmed for patients, their families and others about post discharge care programs.

Assign and supervise health care assistant.

Create therapeutic relationship between patients, relatives, family and others.

Prepare equipment’s and assists in examination and treatments, and clean equipment after use.

Escorts to other departments / units are required.

Monitors stock levels of consumables for re-ordering.

Assist in ensuring safe keeping of patient belongings and valuables in accordance with agreed policy.

Care for dead and manage bereavements.

Maintains continuity of care during take-over and handover reports, ensuring that the communication is clear and accurate at all times.

Ensures that doctors? orders and patient management plans are followed and that appropriate steps are taken, including immediate notification of the resident on-call, of any deterioration from the expected course of the patients condition.

Ensures that the appropriate records of the patients? progress are maintained according to the hospital policies and procedures.

Ensure the safety of the patient, relatives and staff. Reporting untoward incident / accident / staff sickness to the Sister / Charge Nurse.

Maintain current knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on patient clinical conditions. Calculate, prepare, monitor, discontinue fluids and medication drips. Reports adverse reaction to medications.

Take an active role in the prevention and control of infection.

Contribute to the induction of new staff acting as a mentor when appropriate.

Participate in the Quality Improvement Program within his / her area of responsibilities.

Be committed to further development of own clinical skills and knowledge actively seeking learning opportunities as appropriate.

Ensures that the record of all drugs, IV fluids, etc. , is up-to-date as required by the Pharmacy, and ensures that the rules and regulations governing the storage and custody of scheduled drugs and narcotics are strictly observed at all times.

Maintain skill and knowledge in using various medical devices such as ECG machine, Defibrillator, Infusion and Syringe Pump, CTG machine, Electronic fetal monitors, other Gyne instruments and other equipment machine used in OPD / ER.

Maintain skills and knowledge by participating various nursing education programs, in-service training, nursing symposium, workshops & etc.

Ensure that the necessary financial records are maintained for the Finance Department.

Staff should be competent as follows:

Insert a urinary catheter and provide care for the patient with indwelling catheter.

Provides appropriate care for patient receiving enteral feeding.

Safely applies, adapts, removes orthopedic cast.

Provides care for patient with neurological deficit.

Provide education and monitoring for patient receiving anticoagulant therapy.

Demonstrates the required knowledge, skills and attitude in the safety use of therapeutic devices and immobilization.

Provides care for patient with fluid imbalance.

Demonstrates safe pre and post operative care for surgical patients.

Safely remove staple or sutures.

Provides care for patient with total knee and hip replacement.

Assess fetal heart rate patterns by using the electronic fetal heart monitoring.

Provide appropriate post-partum care.

Participate in patient and family education to help patients and families to better understand and participate in their care and make well informed care decisions. Requirements

Two years post-basic experience, six months of which must be in the specialty

Previous experience in Middle Eastern healthcare.

Good command of English Language

Appropriate qualification and statutory nursing registration in the country from where recruited. BSN / RN.

Post-basic course qualification in the specialty.

Valid BLS certificate.
