Job Description
Oversees the day-to-day operation of the Anatomic Pathology and Cytopathology Section in the Laboratory, including Training and Supervision of assigned staff, Quality Improvement, Internal and External Quality Control, Trouble-shooting of instrumentation, Supervising the Proficiency Testing regime, Materials Management, Statistics, Method evaluation and setup, Ensure the Laboratory’s protocols ongoing compliance to College of American Pathologists (CAP) and the Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) standards, Information management, Communication, Safety and daily Bench requirements.
Responsibilities for Internal Candidates:
- Participates in a strategic Laboratory plan for operations and marketing.
- Participates in short and long-term goals for laboratory operations.
- Performs daily cytology routine processes from preparation to screening and signing out. Primarily responsible for screening cervical (Gyn) and non-Gyn samples.
- Performs daily onsite evaluation and adequacy in the Radiology, Operating Room (OR) and Endoscopy units.
- Assists in maintaining accreditation standards.
- Supports Laboratory staff at all levels to maintain morale, and a proper working environment, and provide direction in the performance of their duties.
- Trains, supervises, and ensures assigned staff performance meets standards.
- Assists in staff assessment and development.
- Promotes a safe working environment.
- Promotes ethical practices and maintains patient confidentiality
- Participates in daily Quality Assurance systems and measures.
- Oversees the Quality Control Program.
- Supervises the Proficiency Testing program and reviews results.
- Performs Method Evaluation, Validation and Set-up.
- Provides troubleshooting support for instrumentation, procedures, quality control etc.
- Supervises reagent and supplies inventory.
- Tabulates monthly, yearly, and any other statistical data as required.
- Provides computer support for general and lab computing needs.
- Conducts periodic reviews of methods and staff competence assessment records.
- Prepares Monthly Schedule for technical staff assigned.
- Participates in the Laboratory monthly focus group.
Qualifications for Internal Candidates:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory/Cytology or related filed
- Current/Valid Dubai Health Authority (DHA) License
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in a related field with three (3) years of supervisor experience in Anatomic Pathology and Cytopathology.
- Knowledge of Core Laboratory Sections.
- Knowledge of Accreditation Practices such as the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) and the like.
- Skills in laboratory and general computer applications preferred.
- Ability to speak and write in English fluently.
