The Registered Nurse – ICU is responsible for providing and maintaining a high standard of individualized nursing care to patients and their family members according to current best-evidence based standards, using best judgement at all times in alignment with organization policies, procedures, guidelines and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial nursing assessments following clinical guidelines, initiating required medical referrals.
  • Provide individualized, evidence‑based nursing care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating each patient’s condition while considering socioeconomic and cultural factors.
  • Deliver advanced clinical monitoring and specialized nursing care, particularly in perioperative, acute, or intensive care settings, and administer medications safely according to unit scope.
  • Maintain a safe care environment by adhering to clinical guidelines, pathways, and hospital policies, and ensure responsible use of clinical equipment and unit resources.
  • Ensure accurate, timely documentation and clear communication to support continuity of care, performing all nursing interventions within assigned competencies.
  • Escalate changes in patient condition appropriately and coordinate nursing interventions with physicians and the multidisciplinary team based on assessment and priority of needs.
  • Provide and facilitate patient and family education from admission through discharge to support safety, understanding of care plans, and preventive health practices.
  • Address and resolve patient concerns, share feedback with nursing leadership, and support a smooth patient journey across different services and levels of care.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.
  • Valid DOH (Department of Health) Nursing License or eligibility to obtain one.
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in an ICU setting, with demonstrated competency in caring for critically ill patients.
  • Strong knowledge of ICU protocols, evidence‑based nursing practice, and advanced clinical assessment skills. Ability to work confidently with ventilated patients, complex equipment, and high‑acuity conditions.
  • Current BLS certification (ACLS preferred, if applicable).
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities, with a commitment to delivering patient‑centered care.
  • Ability to adapt in a fast‑paced, highly specialized clinical environment.
