Quality Assurance Specialist (Waste Management Industry)

The Quality Assurance Specialist in the Waste Management industry is responsible for ensuring that all waste collection, transportation, treatment, recycling, and disposal activities are carried out in full compliance with company standards, client requirements, environmental regulations, and applicable ISO certifications. The role focuses on maintaining service quality, operational consistency, and environmental compliance while driving continuous improvement across all waste management operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure effective control and continuous improvement of waste management operations.
  • Define, communicate, and enforce quality standards, procedures, and operational guidelines across all departments and project sites.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits of operational activities including waste collection routes, transfer stations, recycling facilities, and landfill sites to ensure compliance with quality and environmental standards.
  • Monitor service performance against contractual KPIs, regulatory requirements, and internal quality benchmarks.
  • Lead investigations into non-conformances, service failures, and environmental incidents, ensuring timely root cause analysis and implementation of Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
  • Collect, analyze, and report quality performance data, including operational KPIs such as collection efficiency, contamination rates, recycling ratios, and compliance indicators.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards, and support internal and external audits.
  • Maintain complete and accurate QA documentation including audit reports, inspection records, corrective action logs, and compliance reports.
  • Support training initiatives by promoting awareness of quality standards, environmental practices, and safe waste handling procedures across operational teams.
  • Monitor and evaluate performance of subcontractors, transporters, and service providers to ensure adherence to contractual and quality requirements.
  • Handle client complaints and service feedback, ensuring timely resolution and implementation of improvement actions.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable municipal regulations, environmental laws, and industry best practices related to waste management.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, reducing environmental impact, and improving recycling and diversion performance.
  • Identify operational and environmental risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize impact and ensure service continuity.
  • Prepare and present regular QA performance reports, dashboards, and KPI analysis to senior management.
  • Monitor cost of quality, including non-conformance costs, operational inefficiencies, and rework, and recommend improvement actions.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Quality Management, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Quality Assurance within Waste Management, Environmental Services, or Facilities Management.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards.
  • Experience in audits, inspections, and compliance monitoring.
  • Strong analytical, reporting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and municipal waste management standards.
