Role Description The Plaster / Cast Technician is a full-time, on-site role based in Qatar. The technician is responsible for applying, adjusting, and removing plaster and fiberglass casts, splints, and other orthopedic supports under the direction of orthopedic physicians and other clinicians. Day-to-day tasks include preparing patients for casting procedures, selecting appropriate casting materials, maintaining sterile and safe working conditions, and educating patients and families on cast care, mobility, and follow-up instructions. The role involves collaborating closely with nursing staff, physicians, and physiotherapists, documenting procedures accurately, and monitoring patients for complications such as pressure sores or circulation issues. The technician also helps ensure that casting equipment and supplies are properly maintained, stocked, and compliant with hospital infection control and safety policies.
Qualifications
- Casting and splinting skills, including application, adjustment, and safe removal of plaster and fiberglass casts and orthopedic supports.
- Knowledge of basic orthopedic anatomy, fracture types, and immobilization techniques to support orthopedic and emergency department teams.
- Patient care skills, including clear communication, instruction on cast care, and sensitivity to diverse patient needs and comfort.
- Attention to detail and adherence to infection control, safety, and quality standards in all procedures and documentation.
- Ability to work effectively in a busy clinical environment, manage multiple cases, and collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
- Relevant technical diploma or certification in casting / orthopedic technology; prior experience as a Plaster / Cast Technician or in an orthopedic setting is preferred.
- Basic computer skills for electronic medical records and documentation; proficiency in English required, Arabic language skills are an advantage.
- Eligibility to work in Qatar and willingness to comply with hospital policies, shift schedules, and ongoing training requirements.
