Check doctor’s notes for investigations prescribed and guide the patient accordingly. Never substitute or change the ordered investigation without the written consent of the doctors. Anticipate needs of patients who are waiting for Lab services. Spot patient discomfort and take appropriate measures to alleviate their concerns. Work strictly within the scope of Laboratory.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
To ensure safe and painless blood withdrawal from patients both paediatric and adult based on the investigation prescribed by the doctor.
To ensure safe delivery of blood samples to the concerned laboratory along with the correct test sheet.
To check the reports received from the laboratory with the patient’s test sheet and maintain the reports in the respective files of patients.
To ensure your phlebotomy station is well organized at all times.
Patient counselling
Encourage the patients to contact us in case of any adverse reactions or emergency.
Waste Management
Ensure that disposable bin is in the right location in the lab and used appropriately as per MOH regulations and organization protocol.
Infection Control Measures
Ensure hand hygiene is kept through regular hand washing / usage of alcohol rub at all times.
Personal protective equipment such as Gloves is used when dealing with patients.
Place hazard signs wherever there is a spillage of liquid or body fluids.
Non-disposable trays and equipment should be stowed away for sterilization before re-using them again.
Ensure clean and hygienic environment in the Phlebotomy station.
Intravenous Fluids & Intra oral Administration Skills Ensure painless blood withdrawal.
Ensure you check the expiry date of oral fluid.
BLS Skills
Ensure the steps for emergency management for Cardiopulmonary Event. Ensure correct Airway Management Ensure Correct chest compressions.
Professionalism & Team work
Ensure the uniform is clean and free from body odor.
Wear your ID badge with your name clearly visible. Limit eating and drinking in designated areas. Avoid personal conversations with co-workers that can be overheard by patients or the public. Use of mobile phones are strictly prohibited during working hours. Take ownership and responsibility for addressing problems. Address concerns with co-workers professionally and privately. Assist in orientation and training of newly joined personnel in your department. Ensure you adhere to company policies and be a role model for others.
Qualifications
Essential: the post holder must
- Have an appropriate license to work as a Phlebotomist in the relevant regulatory health authority with all the qualifications and experience these mandates.
- Manage their own professional re-licensure.
- Hold a valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support Provider card.
- Be willing to work across departments when necessary.
- Be able to communicate clearly and effectively in English (spoken and written)
DESIRABLE: The post holder should have:
- Evidenced ability to work as part of an inter-professional team.
- Organizational and administrative skills with which to use the electronic medical record platform for clinical documentation.
