Job Description

1. Individual Health Insurance Underwriting (New Business & Renewals)

  • Review medical declarations, reports, and diagnostic results to assess medical risk
  • Calculate risk-based premium surcharges for pre-existing conditions and health issues
  • Request additional medical examinations or reports when needed for accurate pricing
  • Review claims history and health changes at renewal to adjust premiums accordingly
  • Document all decisions with clear medical rationale

2. Group Medical Insurance Underwriting

  • Analyze group medical declarations to identify high-risk members, if needed
  • Estimate potential claims costs from high-risk conditions, calculate aggregate premium loadings based on overall group medical risk profile and Provide clinical justification for premium adjustments above standard rates

3. Mid-Term Changes: Overage Dependents & High-Risk Additions

  • Assess medical risk for overage dependents seeking coverage extension
  • Conduct medical underwriting for new members joining mid-term with medical declarations and calculate appropriate premium charges based on individual medical assessments

General Responsibilities

  • Maintain current knowledge of medical conditions, treatments, and UAE healthcare costs
  • Collaborate with actuarial and claims teams on risk assessment and pricing
  • Ensure compliance with UAE health insurance regulations and data protection laws
  • Apply consistent and fair underwriting decisions
  • Liaise with reinsurers on complex cases
  • Contribute to underwriting guidelines and process improvements

Essential

  • Medical degree (MBBS, MD, or related healthcare qualification)
  • Strong clinical knowledge across multiple specialties
  • Understanding of UAE healthcare system and insurance regulations
  • Excellent analytical and decision-making skills
  • Strong communication and documentation abilities

Desirable

  • Experience in medical underwriting or insurance medicine in UAE/GCC
  • Postgraduate qualification in insurance medicine
  • Knowledge of pricing concepts
  • Strong clinical knowledge across multiple medical specialties (cardiology, oncology, endocrinology, nephrology, etc.)
  • Ability to interpret medical reports, diagnostic tests, and laboratory results
  • Understanding of disease progression, prognosis, and treatment outcomes
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical therapies and their impact on medical conditions
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and clinical documentation
  • Understanding of insurance principles and risk-based pricing
  • Strong analytical thinking to evaluate complex medical information and communication abilities
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and multiple projects/ cases
