Job Description
The Specialist – Hematology is responsible for providing comprehensive, evidence-based care for patients with benign hematological disorders in a tertiary-care governmental hospital setting.
The role involves assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and long-term management of hematological conditions while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure high standards of patient care, safety, and clinical outcomes.
The position is aligned with the Department of Healthcare Professions (DHP) licensing requirements in Qatar.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and manage patients with hematological disorders including anemia, bleeding and clotting disorders, and bone marrow disorders
- Provide inpatient and outpatient hematology consultations and follow-up care
- Interpret and analyze laboratory investigations including peripheral blood smears, coagulation profiles, and bone marrow findings
- Perform and/or supervise hematology-related procedures such as bone marrow aspiration and biopsy
- Develop individualized treatment and management plans based on evidence-based guidelines and international best practices
- Collaborate with internal medicine, pathology, laboratory, and other multidisciplinary teams for integrated patient care
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, case discussions, and clinical handovers
- Ensure accurate and timely medical documentation within the Hospital Information System (HIS)
- Adhere to clinical governance, infection control, patient safety, and quality improvement standards
- Participate in departmental audits, continuous medical education (CME), and hospital committees when required
- Provide education and counseling to patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, and long-term management
Qualifications & Experience
- Medical Degree (MD or equivalent) from an accredited institution
- Board, or equivalent recognized specialization in Hematology
- Minimum 3 years of post-board experience as a Specialist in Hematology
- Experience in governmental, tertiary-care, teaching, or semi-governmental hospitals preferred
- Eligibility for Specialist license under Qatar DHP regulations is mandatory
- Strong clinical, communication, and multidisciplinary teamwork skills
