Roles and Responsibilities Summary

Responsible for the operation of the Pharmaceutical Care Division, including strategic planning, day-to-day operations, clinical and distribution services, financial management, and personnel management for the division.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

1. Develops and coordinates the achievement of departmental long and short-range goals based on developments and trends in health care and on the specific needs of the Hospital. Prepares Policies and Procedures manual of the Pharmacy and revises, as necessary.

2. Ensures that medications are used safety, rationally, and effectively. Enhances drug therapies to correct deficiencies in the drug use process. Provides accurate and scientific drug information to other health professionals.

3. Controls utilization of departmental resources and operates the department within the approved budget.

4. Develops and oversees and organized formal program to ensure the high quality of pharmaceutical care and ensures compliance with established standards of practice from accreditation organizations (e.g., JCI, USP, and ASHP).

5. Prepares periodic reports to hospital administration containing qualitative and quantitative data of Pharmaceutical Care activities.

6. Assesses on a continuous basis departmental provided services and functions to improve services and, if possible, to reduce costs.

7. Ensures proper dispensing, disposal, and record keeping of controlled drugs. Maintains liaison with the Ministry of Health and Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) regarding all matters pertaining to controlled drugs.

8. Initiates and coordinates drug research activities.

9. Approves performance standards for all Pharmaceutical Care staff. Establishes appropriate staffing levels and positions to achieve departmental objectives.

10. Integrates Pharmaceutical Care with other Hospital departments and the medical staff to establish a multidisciplinary approach to improving patient care.

11. Develops and justifies new Pharmaceutical Care programs and services to improve patient care. 12. Ensures that Pharmaceutical Care automation systems are up-to-date and appropriately integrated into other systems within the Hospital. 13. Implements and monitors all prescribed safety procedures. Enforces all Hospital and division-related policies and procedures to achieve services objectives.

14. Represents the department at professional committees and task forces as required.

15. Establishes and maintains a pharmaceutical care training model serve as suitable environment for training Pharmaceutical Care students.

16. Follows all Hospital related Policies and Procedures.

17. Participates in self and others’ education, training and development, as applicable.

18. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education:

Pharm D. / Master’s Degree in Pharmacy and Pharmacy Residency program from an accredited College of Pharmacy after completion of Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy is required.

Experience Required:

Twelve (12) years of related experience in a tertiary care setting, including five (5) years of experience in Senior/Supervisor or Managerial capacity in a large, complex hospital, health care institution or related health care organization with PharmD. / Master’s Degree is required.… more
