Job Description

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Preoperative Evaluation:

  • Evaluate patients’ medical histories, physical examinations, and surgical risks to determine anesthetic risk stratification, formulate appropriate anesthetic plans and adequately counsel patients about benefits and alternate plans before they sign informed consents.

Develop Anesthesia Care Plans:

  • The anesthesiologist will be expected to develop anesthesia care plans tailored to patients’ individual needs and the complexity of the surgical/non-surgical procedures involved Care plans should include strategies to manage potential risks and complications.
  • The anesthesiologist is expected to be proficient in the use of a variety of anesthesia modalities (such as TCI and regional anesthetic techniques), as well as the use of the wide range of invasive and non-invasive monitoring techniques.

Responding to Emergencies:

  • The anesthesiologist must be prepared to respond to an array of emergencies in the clinical care areas where anesthetics are provided.
  • Furthermore, he/she might be called on to assist with the care of critically ill patients in clinical areas across CCAD.

Caring with empathy:

  • The anesthesiologist must be capable of providing care in a culturally appropriate and sensitive manner.

Postoperative Care:

  • The anesthesiologist will be responsible for ensuring that patients recover safely from anesthesia in a level of care that’s appropriate for the patient’s clinical condition.
  • The anesthesiologist must be adept in the hand-off of patient care (especially critically ill patients).

Team Collaboration:

  • The anesthesiologist will be expected to work collaboratively with CCAD medical and non-medical staff to ensure the best possible outcomes for the patient. That includes participations in multi-disciplinary collaborations and consultations.

Provide Consultation Services:

  • This includes providing advice and recommendations related to anesthesia/sedation administration or assisting in the development of anesthesia plans for high-risk patients. Moreover, it includes consulting on pain management care plans for surgical and non-surgical patients and assisting with life-threatening emergencies when needed.

Continuing Education:

  • The anesthesiologist will be expected to keep up to date with the latest advances in anesthesia techniques, medications, and equipment to provide the best possible care to CCAD patients.
  • He/she will also be expected to meet the CME requirements to maintain DOH licensing in the emirate of Abu Dhabi and in their home countries as well as those needed to maintain CCAD privileges.

Administrative functions:

  • The anesthesiologist will be expected to adhere to CCAD policies related to documentation, billing, and key performance indicators (KPIs) that ensure the optimal operations of the clinical environment.
  • He/she may be asked to serve on committees, task forces and performance improvement projects that adhere to the Mubadala ethics and regulatory guidelines.

Work hour compliance:

  • The anesthesiologist will be expected to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays according to departmental policies and procedures.

Clinical privileges:

  • The anesthesiologist will adhere to the extent of his/her individual approved clinical privileges, as well as to all policies and procedures of the staff physicians’ bylaws.

Experience Requirements

  • CCAD is a tertiary center of surgical excellence therefore anesthesiologist must meet the following requirements to qualify for employment:
  • Consultant anesthesiologists must have a minimum of
  • 3 years of independent work experience post-graduation if they completed training in a Tier-1 classified country.
  • 5 years of independent work experience post-graduation if they completed training in a Tier-2 classified country.
  • 10 years of experience independent work experience post-graduation if they completed training in a Tier-3 classified country.
  • Must hold a valid License/ Registration to practice in their home country and/or country of last employment (where applicable)
  • Should meet the Maintenance of Certification requirements (where applicable)
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage a team of health care professionals.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and staff.
  • Ability to speak and write in English is required.
  • Ability to speak and write in both English and Arabic is preferred.

Education Requirements

MD, MBBS, MBChB or DO (only if the specialization is obtained from one of the following: American Board of Medical Specialties or Certificates of Specializations of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada) or equivalent qualification from an accredited Institution and completion of specialty qualification as per the Recognized Specialty Certificate table listed in Healthcare Professionals Qualification Requirements 2024
