- Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates nursing unit orientation, learning and development programs consistent with the hospital’s mission and goals.
- Acts as a mentor and clinical resource at the unit level.
- Conducts formal and informal teaching sessions at the unit level.
- Develops and implements competency-based assessment programs.
- Manages and maintains a computerized database for staff competency development plans and education attendance.
- Provides regular updates to the department Manager.
- Provides an educational resource service within assigned area/s and additional units as required.
- Supports hospital policies and serves as a professional role model for staff.
- Works in other areas within the hospital when assigned, within the scope of practice.
- Maintains clinical and professional competency based on the latest research and established standards of practice.
- Completes all Core Competencies for nursing as well as applicable Unit Specific Competencies within prescribed timelines.
- Demonstrates awareness and knowledge of Infection Control, Pain Management and Wound Care practices and standards.
- Reports and documents as directed in the relevant policies and procedures.
- Understands the responsibilities of safe handling, and administration of Narcotic/Controlled Drugs and documentation as directed by policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates support of leadership. Encourages team decisions, and cooperation within and across departments and assists in resolving differences of opinion.
- Participate in hospital-wide and nursing committees.
- Demonstrates understanding and familiarity with Facility Management and Safety Plans.
- Actively participates in hospital/department quality improvement initiatives.
- Attends the monthly Nurse Management Team meeting and monthly Education meeting.
- Maintains annual education requirements and participates in ongoing education activities.
- Assists with departmental competency planning/review.
- Performs additional duties when required within the scope of practice.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT:
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing (minimum of three (3) years full-time course duration) or
- Degree in Nursing (minimum two (2) years course duration) and Registration as a Registered Nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia.
- For UAE nationals graduates of UAE or non-UAE universities are exempted from the experience and clinical training requirements for the applied title. (UAE nationals must submit a copy of their birth certificate and the mother’s family book).
- Non-UAE national graduates from UAE universities are required to successfully complete six (6) months of clinical training post-graduation in an APS health facility (except for Registered and assistant Nurse titles).
- Must hold a valid License/Registration to practice in their home country and/or country of last employment (where applicable).
- Must hold a minimum of a valid Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification or others according to the scope of practice.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience in a specific area of practice.
- Minimum of two (2) years of clinical teaching experience in a clinical environment.
- Knowledge of Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) acute care medical facility.
- Skills in organizational skills (time management) – managing tasks, meeting deadlines, and maintaining productivity.
- Ability to impart knowledge in critical thinking to new employees and colleagues.
