Job Description

We are looking for the following:

  • Speech Lanaguage Therapist – Movement Disorder
  • Pakinson’s Clinic Coordinator – Movement Disorder
  • Physiotherapist – Movement Disorder

Key Responsibilities:

Speech Lanaguage Therapist – Movement Disorder

  • To provide a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapy Service to Adults with Parkinson’s disease and other Movement & Neurodegenerative disorders
  • To act as an autonomous practitioner providing assessment, diagnosis, treatment, opinion and evaluation of a complex nature in an area of specialism.
  • To monitor and manage all admissions to the Parkinson’s centre of Excellence King’s College Hospital London, Dubai
  • To provide a rapid response dysphagia service for all Inpatients prioritised as urgent and ability to perform Video Fluoroscopy assessments
  • To follow up all people with Parkinson’s disease on discharge from hospital into the community.
  • To be involved in instrumental dysphagia assessments for people with Parkinson’s disease.
  • To work as part of a team and independently; liaising and working closely with patients, carers and other professionals.
  • To disseminate and share complex diagnostic/therapeutic information (oral and written) and to ensure a holistic and integrated approach to client care.
  • To establish closer collaboration with the wider Multidisciplinary Team and other outside agencies in order to provide an integrated approach to care.
  • The post holder will be expected to lead on service development, research and audit, Health and Safety and risk Management for the service area.
  • The post holder will develop and provide training programs to the MDT and relevant acute and community teams.
  • To take responsibility for high quality data collection related to service area.
  • To ensure the smooth and efficient running of the service within the available resources

Physiotherapist – Movement Disorder

  • To provide a highly specialist level of service as with specialist knowledge and skills to support the management of patients with movement disorders, including Parkinson’s Disease (PD) and Dystonia
  • The post holder is expected to participate in all aspectsof the outpatient and inpatient care pathway as appropriate and will be expected to perform delegated duties with a high degree of clinical skill, compassion, dedication and knowledge, working within the team under supervision of Dr Vinod Metta & Prof Ray Chaudhuri
  • The role will support other services as needed for patient flow , follow up clinics ( Physio led) as well as contributing to decision making for patients to be admitted, transferred or discharged.
  • This role sometimes involves managing patients beyond standard working hours, 9-5 Monday-Friday, managing overseas and complex patients requiring additional working hours, late evenings and weekend (including bank holidays) shifts depending on service needs and patient requirements, this ofcourse will be compensated as per law of land
  • The post holder will be supervised by Dr Vinod Metta with regular meetings to support ongoing development within the role.
  • The post holder will be required to go travel to community-based clinics, participate in Parkinson’s patients community connecting services, and actively involvedin research and international meetings, presentations and multidisciplinary, Dystonia and Botulinum toxin clinics
  • Other responsibilities include ensuring service compliance with clinical governance, ongoingservice development, evaluation of outcomes and identification of audit priorities within the specialty of Parkinson’s aand movement disorders, KCH Dubai

The postholder will receive supervised training and support to undertake the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Learn how to dorating scales like MOCA and UPDRS,and other Non motor Scales
  • report Parkinson’s Kinetigraph (PKG) results
  • Support inpatient wardsby participating in ward rounds, coordinating blood results and writing discharge summaries
  • Learnhow to perform Gain exposureto the range of commercial and non-commercial Parkinson’s Disease research studies supervised by Dr Vinod Metta

Pakinson’s Clinic Coordinator – Movement Disorder

  • To manage clinics from a clerical perspective, liaising with patients, carers and staff of all levels,including medical staff. To be responsible for the efficient administration of outpatient appointments.
  • From initial referral to patient attendance and finally discharge from clinic. To work closely with team members including nursing, secretarial and medical staff.
  • To be responsible for the preparation forOutpatient Clinics (including Zoom clinics) in line with consultant guidelines,  and to ensure that all relevant case notes, x-rays, test results and other information, including data from other hospitals, is available for each patient’s visit.
  • To ensure all case notes and patient records are maintained in good condition.
  • Managing both inpatient and outpatient waiting list and filling up clinics accordingly and arrange follow up appointments
  • Be responsible for ensuring patients clinic letters are sent out in keeping with Trust Policy
  • Ensure accurate and timely process of clinical and administrative correspondence (forms, clinic letters) from the consultants and medical staff teams
  • Any administrative duties as deemed necessary to support the patient journey including booking appointments and preparation of medical records
  • To provide a reception service to the patients on clinic utilising the RSS system to document their arrival / departure. Record patient clinic outcome at the end of their consultation, billing process and book any follow-up appointments and arrange investigations for patients
  • Ensure accurate patient demographic information is sought at the clinic appointment and that both the hospital notes and HISS system are updated accordingly
  • To liaise with the nurse in charge of clinic ensuring the patients are kept informed of any delays
  • To follow-up any investigation results and received within agreed timescales
  • To be responsible for queries and enquires regarding appointments
  • To be responsible for transferring clinic case notes on TrackIT at the end of their clinic to appropriate destination

Qualification and Experiences:

Speech Lanaguage Therapist – Movement Disorder

  • UAE DHA Registration
  • Recognised SLT training
  • Experience in Movement Disorders & Parkinson’s
  • MSc SLT related study
  • HCPC registered
  • IRMER qualification
  • Experience in neurological SLT – in-patient, out-patient and communitysettings
  • Significant clinical experience within patients with movement disorders and managing highly complex cases
  • Evidence of advancedclinical reasoning skills
  • Evidence of advanced communication skills with consultant teams and complex cases
  • Evidence of ordering and managing a range of clinical investigations

Qualification and Experiences:
