Key Responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive Family Medicine consultations for adult and elderly patients.
- Diagnose and manage acute and chronic medical conditions in accordance with evidence-based clinical guidelines.
- Perform medical assessments, formulate treatment plans, and coordinate ongoing care.
- Manage patients with multiple chronic comorbidities through a holistic and patient-centered approach.
- Prescribe medications and monitor treatment outcomes while minimizing risks associated with polypharmacy.
- Order, interpret, and act upon diagnostic investigations and laboratory results.
- Refer patients to other specialties and allied health services when clinically indicated.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and timely medical records within the hospital EMR system.
Geriatric Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive geriatric assessments, including medical, functional, cognitive, psychological, nutritional, and social evaluations.
- Assess and manage frailty syndromes and age-related conditions.
- Manage conditions commonly encountered in geriatric practice, including:
- Dementia and cognitive impairment
- Delirium
- Falls and balance disorders
- Osteoporosis
- Polypharmacy
- Urinary incontinence
- Functional decline
- Chronic pain
- Nutritional deficiencies
- Develop individualized care plans for elderly patients and coordinate multidisciplinary interventions.
- Provide support and counseling to caregivers and family members.
- Collaborate with physiotherapy, occupational therapy, dietetics, nursing, psychology, and other specialties to ensure comprehensive care.
- Promote healthy aging, preventive care, and wellness initiatives for older adults.
Multidisciplinary Care
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case review discussions.
- Coordinate care for complex patients requiring multiple specialties.
- Contribute to discharge planning and continuity of care initiatives.
Quality and Patient Safety
- Adhere to all hospital policies, clinical guidelines, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards.
- Participate in quality improvement projects, audits, morbidity discussions, and patient safety initiatives.
- Report and manage clinical incidents according to hospital policy.
- Support continuous improvement of Family Medicine and Geriatric services.
Academic and Professional Responsibilities
- Participate in Continuing Medical Education (CME) and professional development activities.
- Contribute to teaching, mentoring, and training of junior medical staff as required.
- Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to service development initiatives.
- Support clinical research, publications, and community outreach programs where applicable.
Authority
The post holder is authorized to:
- Independently assess, diagnose, and manage patients within the approved scope of practice.
- Prescribe medications as per DOH regulations and hospital policies.
- Request diagnostic investigations and specialist consultations as clinically indicated.
- Participate in the development of geriatric and family medicine pathways and protocols.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification recognized by the Department of Health (DOH), Abu Dhabi.
- Completion of an accredited Family Medicine Residency Program.
Professional Qualification
- Specialist qualification in Family Medicine recognized by DOH Abu Dhabi.
Preferred
- Fellowship, Diploma, Certification, or substantial clinical experience in Geriatric Medicine.
- Additional training in dementia care, frailty assessment, elderly rehabilitation, or chronic disease management.
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of post-specialization experience in Family Medicine.
- Demonstrated experience managing elderly patients within outpatient, hospital, or integrated care settings.
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
