Job Summary:

Perform radiographic or ultrasound examinations of the highest possible quality that answer the clinical question posed by the referrer using the lowest radiation dose practicable taking into account the principles of justification and optimization. This must be done with regard to all current radiation safety regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform all sonography imaging procedures in accordance with departmental policies, procedures, and protocols
  • Apply detailed knowledge of anatomy and physiology to produce high-quality diagnostic images
  • Acquire additional images when required to support optimal diagnostic interpretation
  • Evaluate sonography images for quality, accuracy, appropriateness, and completeness, and advise colleagues when necessary
  • Forward completed images to the Radiologist for review and reporting
  • Exercise independent, professional, and ethical judgment to ensure accurate capture of anatomical, pathological, and clinical findings
  • Perform advanced sonography services and other delegated tasks in line with qualifications, training, and facility protocols
  • Provide preliminary sonography reports to support the interpreting physician
  • Recognize anatomy and pathology in cross-sectional imaging to optimize scan protocols and liaise with Radiologists for further imaging or investigations
  • Operate advanced ultrasound equipment and specialist software, including Doppler imaging

Education, Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Radiography OR graduation from an accredited Diploma Program in Radiography (minimum 3-year syllabus)
  • Graduation from an accredited Sonography or Radiography program (minimum 2-year syllabus), such as certification from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)
  • Current and valid national professional license
  • Completion of dedicated courses in specialized sonography imaging is preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years post-graduation experience in ultrasound imaging within an acute care hospital setting
  • Proven experience in Doppler studies, Obstetric & Gynecology, and Abdominal sonography
