Job Description

The role requires hands-on experience in underwriting SME insurance products, close collaboration with sales teams, and effective use of digital platforms to drive profitable business growth. The ideal candidate will have worked with leading insurance companies or Lloyd’s and demonstrated the ability to balance risk management with commercial objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Underwrite Property, Casualty, Financial lines and all other coverages as on SME basis.
  • Evaluate and analyze risk exposures, financials, and business profiles of SME clients to determine appropriate pricing and coverage terms
  • Partner closely with sales, distribution, and broker channels to support business acquisition and retention
  • Provide underwriting support to drive growth while ensuring portfolio profitability and loss ratio management
  • Leverage digital underwriting platforms, CRM systems, and analytics tools to improve turnaround time, decision quality, and customer experience
  • Actively contribute to product innovation, pricing inputs, and underwriting process enhancements
  • Review renewals, endorsements, and policy modifications with a focus on risk quality and customer value
  • Monitor portfolio performance and recommend corrective actions where required
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory standards, and audit requirements

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 5–7 years of relevant experience in SME underwriting with top insurance companies
  • Demonstrated experience in both underwriting and sales/business-facing roles
  • Prior exposure to digital transformation initiatives or technology-led underwriting processes is highly desirable.
  • Graduate or Postgraduate degree in Commerce, Finance, Insurance, or a related field
  • Professional insurance qualifications (preferred)

  • Strong understanding of SME insurance products (Property, Liability, Engineering, Marine, or Package policies)
  • Proven underwriting judgment combined with a commercial and sales-driven mindset
  • Ability to work collaboratively with sales teams, brokers, and distribution partners
  • Proficiency in using digital underwriting platforms, workflow tools, and data-driven insights to drive efficiency and growth
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
