Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Sleep Therapist/Polysomnographic Technologist to join our Sleep Medicine team on a 6-month locum contract. This role is ideal for a qualified professional with expertise in sleep diagnostics and therapy who is passionate about delivering exceptional patient care.

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing and monitoring sleep studies, conducting home sleep apnea testing, supporting therapeutic interventions, and providing patient education while working closely with physicians and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

• Perform and monitor overnight polysomnography (sleep studies).
• Conduct Home Sleep Apnea Testing (HSAT) setup, patient education, and data retrieval.
• Review patient history and verify physician orders before testing.
• Educate patients and families regarding sleep study procedures and PAP therapy.
• Administer and monitor PAP (CPAP/BiPAP) and oxygen titration studies.
• Observe, document, and report sleep stages, respiratory events, cardiac activity, and other clinical findings.
• Assist with sleep study scoring and report preparation in accordance with AASM standards.

Technical Duties

• Prepare, calibrate, and troubleshoot sleep diagnostic equipment.
• Apply electrodes and sensors following established clinical guidelines.
• Ensure study quality by identifying and correcting signal artifacts.
• Perform specialized testing, including:
• Multiple Sleep Latency Tests (MSLT)
• Maintenance of Wakefulness Tests (MWT)
• Parasomnia studies
• PAP and oxygen titration studies

Patient Care

• Ensure patient comfort, safety, and privacy throughout the study process.
• Provide age-appropriate care for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
• Monitor patients throughout overnight studies and respond appropriately to clinical needs.
• Conduct pre-study and post-study patient assessments and documentation.

Quality & Compliance

• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and patient records.
• Adhere to infection control, patient safety, and hospital policies.
• Support quality assurance initiatives and compliance with AASM standards.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential Requirements

• Valid DHA License as a Registered Nurse.
• Certification in one of the following:
• Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT)
• American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM)
• NBRC Sleep Disorders Specialty Credential
• Minimum 2 years of experience in a hospital, sleep laboratory, or similar healthcare setting.
• Current BLS/Resuscitation Certification.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong knowledge of sleep study procedures and sleep disorder diagnostics.
• Experience with overnight polysomnography, HSAT, and PAP titration.
• Familiarity with AASM standards and sleep study scoring.
• Excellent communication and patient education skills.
• Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
• Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
