Senior Underwriter – Liability

As a Senior Underwriter, you will be expected to be an experienced technical underwriter with ability to execute P&L. This role will expect you to focus on the acquisition of new business. The successful candidate will have 8-10 years of experience within top-tier insurance companies or syndicates, showcasing a proven ability to underwrite complex liability risks and manage a high-performing underwriting team.

You will play a key role in driving profitable growth, managing key client relationships, and providing leadership to a team of underwriters, ensuring business strategies align with the company’s financial goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Business Acquisition: Lead efforts to acquire new business by identifying opportunities in the market, building relationships with brokers and clients, and negotiating terms.
  • Risk Assessment: Perform detailed risk analysis and assessments to ensure sound underwriting decisions are made, while maintaining an optimal balance between risk and reward.
  • Stakeholder Management: Build strong relationships with brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders to effectively communicate underwriting strategies, decisions, and market insights.
  • Compliance & Governance: Ensure all underwriting activities adhere to regulatory requirements, company policies, and industry best practices.
  • Market Intelligence: Stay informed on market trends, competitor activity, and regulatory changes to provide proactive underwriting solutions and maintain a competitive edge.
  • Reporting & Documentation: Oversee the preparation of underwriting reports, risk assessments, and other documentation, ensuring accurate and timely communication of underwriting decisions to internal and external stakeholders

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 8-10 years of underwriting experience, specifically in liability, with a strong background working with top-tier insurance companies or syndicates.
  • Experience across Casualty and Financial lines of insurance.
  • Degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, or a related field. Professional designations (e.g., ACII, CPCU) are preferred.

Competencies:

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and make sound decisions in complex situations.
 

Deep understanding of liability insurance products and strong technical knowledge in risk assessment, pricing, and coverage structuring.

Demonstrated success in acquiring new business, building client relationships, and effectively negotiating terms.

Experience in driving P&L performance, ensuring profitable growth while mitigating risk exposure.

Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence and negotiate effectively at all levels.
