Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to the hospital’s official working hours and attendance schedule.
  • Attend duties according to the departmental physicians’ roster approved monthly by the Medical Administration.
  • Perform proper handover and takeover of all admitted patients in accordance with the hospital handover policy. Notify the Chief Resident of the specialty or the Unit Director if the incoming resident is absent or delayed. Do not leave the hospital until the shift has been handed over to another physician of the same specialty.
  • Assess all newly admitted patients immediately upon admission. Document the patient’s medical history and clinical examination, order the necessary laboratory tests and imaging studies, and prescribe the initial treatment according to the approved clinical protocols for the specialty.
  • Ensure that the attending consultant reviews every newly admitted patient within 6 hours of admission (or within 4 hours of the initial communication with the consultant). If the primary consultant cannot be contacted within 2 hours of the patient’s admission, or fails to attend within 4 hours after being contacted, call the next consultant on the Medical Administration’s approved on-call roster.
  • Accompany the consultant during patient rounds and document the consultant’s findings, recommendations, and instructions in the patient’s medical record.
  • Conduct daily rounds on patients within the specialty at least twice daily, documenting the patient’s clinical progress during each round.
  • Prescribe all required medications for patients, review medication orders daily, and ensure that medications are administered by the nursing staff according to schedule.
  • Request consultations from other specialties as needed and follow up to ensure that the consultations are completed.
  • Complete all required documentation in the patient’s medical record, including admission forms, physician orders, daily progress notes, investigation requests, and the final medical report/discharge summary upon patient discharge.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine (MBBS or equivalent).
  • Master’s Degree in the relevant specialty.
  • Valid medical license to practice
