Job Purpose:
Has overall responsibility for the control, storage, handling, dispensing and record keeping of N&C drugs and ensure their use is in full compliance with MOH and Regional Food and Drug Authority.
Key Responsibilities And Duties
- Reviews consumption of N&C medication in Fakeeh Care and sets the min-max for ordering in close collaboration with medication procurement unit manager. Ensures that adequate stock is available at all times.
- Follows on decisions of P&TC for introducing or deleting N&C drugs.
- Responsible for all communications with MOH and SFDA and ensure that all steps of handling of narcotic and controlled medications are in full compliance with these agencies.
- Responsible for physically receiving N&C drugs that are delivered by supplier.
- Responsible for oversight of stocking of N&C drugs in all Fakeeh Care user unit and in N&C drug unit and ensures that it meets regulatory bodies and Fakeeh Care policies.
- Responsible for oversight of distribution of N&C drugs into different user units of Fakeeh Care after ensuring that proper documentation and returned ampoules are available and accounted.
- Oversees the collection of dispensed ampules and prescriptions and ensures that they are stored in N&C drugs unit according to MOH standards.
- Reviews the results of investigational and OVR analysis for any N&C ampoules that get broken, stolen or unaccounted.
- Reviews all N&C prescriptions for accuracy and completion.
- Responsible for disposal of N&C empty/ expired ampoules and ensures this is done in compliance with regulatory bodies and Fakeeh Care policies.
- On quarterly basis submits the following indicators the Narcotic and Controlled Drugs subcommittee:
- Percentage of formulary N&C drugs that went out of stock in Fakeeh care during the prior quarter.
- Percentage of OVR’s and investigations related to N&C drugs that showed suggestion of misuse/ abuse.
- Percentage of reviewed N&C prescriptions that were fully compliant with standards.
- Performs Final clearance of inpatient nurses, ER nurses and outpatient pharmacists that handle N&C drugs.
- Ensures all staff that prescribe, dispense and administer narcotic and controlled medication strictly follows N&C rules, guidelines and safety/security standards.
- Participates in the departmental performance improvement, educational and other clinical or administrative related activities.
- Actively participates in writing, reviewing and revising policies and procedures and medical guidelines related to use of N&C drugs.
- Ensures that all N&C medications are stored in safe cabinets as required by MOH, Regional Food and Drug Authority and Fakeeh Care policies.
- Ensures accurate records of all narcotic and controlled medications as per MOH and Regional Food and Drug Authority requirements.
- Conducts periodic auditing to all sub-stores, prepare and submit floor inspection reports to head of pharmacy.
- Prepares and submit semi-annual reports to MOH of inventory and consumption of N&C medications.
- Initiates drug exchange with other hospitals to manage over stocks or shortage of stock after head of pharmacy approval in coordination with planning.
- Prepares required documents and arrange materials required for annual disposal of empty glass containers, expired medications and narcotic documents in coordination with MOH team through third party companies.
- Reports to head of pharmacy any deviation from the standards of practice and current policies and procedures of Fakeeh Care.
- Keeps a monthly inventory for narcotic store and repots any variance to head of pharmacy.
- Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of responsibility and requirements of the job.
- Enrollment in continuous education program regarding medication management practices, high risk medications, medication errors and others.
- Educates patients and their families about health conditions, treatments and preventative measures if applicable.

Requirements
Skills and Abilities:
- Competent computer skills with software applications to include Microsoft Word, Excel.
- Actively strive to upgrade professional skills through engaging in appropriate professional training and experience.
Experience
Must have at least 3 years of inpatient hospital pharmacy experience or completion of residency program.
Education
Diploma Clinical Pharm. M.S Clinical Pharmacist, or Pharm D. Degrees.
Language
Good command of oral and written English.
Licenses / Certifications
License for practice as per the regional health regulatory authority e.g. (SCFHS / DHA).
