Job Description
The Regional Neuropsychiatry Medical Manager is a strategic office-based, field-directed medical professional who uses medical knowledge and customer insights to provide inputs into the development of the therapy area Medical Affairs plan and engage in peer-to-peer communication to provide cutting edge scientific information to external stakeholders and medical advice to internal stakeholders such as Sales, Marketing, Market Access, Regulatory and other colleagues as deemed necessary.
The role requires scientific interaction and engagement with Health Care Providers and scientific experts, engaging in non-promotional scientific exchange, consistent with the objectives of the Medical Affairs Function, and NewBridge Pharmaceuticals overall. The position will be responsible for managing Medical Science Liaisons for the specified Neuropsychiatry portfolio of products.
Required Competencies, Qualifications and Experience
- MD, MSc, PhD, or PharmD with at least 5 years of experience within the medical affairs function in the pharmaceutical industry, in a similar role in the MENA region.
- Strong knowledge of his / her therapy area, as well as being capable of becoming an expert in the assigned therapy area in case additional areas are added to his / her responsibility.
- Leadership: Able to lead and manage a team of FMAs / MSLs (when and where applicable), and able to inspire and motivate team members to achieve goals and objectives.
- Communication Skills: Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Able to communicate effectively with internal teams, HCPs, and external stakeholders.
- Strategic Thinking: Able to think strategically and develop long-term plans that align with the company’s goals and objectives. Identify trends and opportunities in the market and adjust strategies accordingly.
- Teamwork: Collaborate effectively with other departments within the company, including marketing, sales, finance, market access, business development, HR, and regulatory affairs.
- Analytical Skills: Analyze data and metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of medical programs and initiatives. They should be able to identify areas for improvement and develop solutions to address them.
- Project Management: Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines, effectively allocate resources, and manage budgets.
- Able to multi-task and prioritize producing a high volume of work across all deliverables (regulatory, access, BD, clinical trials (when conducted), marketing support, presentations, publications, etc)
Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Strategy and Planning
- Develop, lead, and ensure the implementation of the Medical Affairs strategy and tactical plan for the Neuropsychiatry product portfolio, addressing the associated unmet medical needs.
- Provide pro-active medical / clinical inputs, as well as local medical practice insights into the strategic medical / marketing plans of the assigned brands.
- Contribute to and support the effective communication of the brand strategy for his / her products / therapy area, to the broader cross functional team.
- Propose, design, and implement strategic medical activities and the sponsoring of medical activities at congresses.
- Developing and supervising tactical plans, with clear KPIs for MSL team within the assigned franchise, when and where appropriate.
- Implementing a publication plan for the assigned TA, where applicable.
HCP Interactions, Key Medical Expert Management (KME) and Engagement
- A major part of the role is to maintain a high level of scientific interaction with HCP’s, hence at least 50% of the job should be spent on HCP interactions in the form of emails, telephone calls, face-to-face meetings whether pre-scheduled or un-scheduled.
- Responsible for identifying, building, and managing a network of National, Regional and International KMEs for the assigned Neuropsychiatry portfolio.
- Directing interactions with KMEs for medical purposes for the assigned Neuropsychiatry portfolio.
- Becoming the main contact for HCP’s medical queries related to the assigned Neuropsychiatry portfolio.
- Manage any medical support request from HCPs such as, but not limited to, publication support, investigator-initiated studies, congress symposia, educational programs, or educational / research grants, etc.
- Ensure implementation of a comprehensive KME engagement strategy and maintain professional and credible relationships with these KMEs, therapy area experts as well as any specialized medical / academic centers.
- Responsible for setting up Scientific Advisory Boards to collect insights on disease areas, treatment algorithms, clinical data, study design, or new treatment options.
- Lead the facilitation of initiation, development, and ongoing maintenance of centers of excellence, and programs to develop speakers to support broader education needs.
- Lead the MSL team (when and where available) to identify, train and develop speakers for the assigned Neuropsychiatry portfolio, and manage the related speaking engagements.
- Lead and demonstrate how to successfully connect with opinion leaders locally and globally and how to collaborate with them as advisors, investigators, expert guest speakers, or business development partners.
Develop and Maintain Therapy Area Knowledge
- Ensure that his / her knowledge of all evidence-based updates in the assigned Neuropsychiatry portfolio is always up to date and is appropriately communicated to NewBridge Pharmaceuticals personnel, when required.
- Provide regular communications on the assigned Neuropsychiatry portfolio and disease area across the franchise, as well as within NewBridge Pharmaceuticals when required.
- Maintain and update information for local study feasibility on a continuous basis and provide timely replies to partners’ requests for information for local study feasibility when required.
- Attending appropriate scientific congresses to develop knowledge in the relevant therapy areas and to produce congress / symposia summaries to be circulated internally to his / her team, and HCPs, when relevant.
Internal Support / NewBridge Pharmaceuticals Partner Alliance Management
- Become the medical expert for all internal NewBridge Pharmaceuticals interactions, activities, and communications requiring medical knowledge and input.
- Providing therapeutic and scientific training and information to all internal cross-functional teams within NewBridge Pharmaceuticals, whether as training, or to support different initiatives.
- Medical support for the development of scientific and promotional materials and / or activities.
- Demonstrate NewBridge Pharmaceuticals medical leadership with its partners, through active participation in alliance meetings, to enhance the image of NewBridge Pharmaceuticals and to fulfill contractual obligations.
- Provide relevant medical input when required for business development projects.
- Obtaining accurate medical insight on the responsible disease or product area to inform the medical plan and business activities.
- Direct the team to obtain feedback and advice about company products through peer-to-peer interactions and advisory boards and communicate relevant information back to internal stakeholders.
Provide Scientific Information / Communications and Educational Support
- Support HCPs by providing them with relevant scientific and clinical data for the assigned Neuropsychiatry portfolio.
- Lead and assist in the organization of key external National and Regional events e.g. satellite symposia, 3rd party congresses, NewBridge Pharmaceuticals summits, etc.
- Deliver scientific lectures / presentations to HCPs proactively, and when requested to ensure adequate product knowledge is provided to HCPs.
- Provide timely responses to medical information requests from the field force as well as from the HCPs in relation to the assigned Neuropsychiatry portfolio, or disease specific questions.
- Support Market Access Team / Regulatory Team with the development of Value Letters / Dossiers, or leading (presenting) scientific discussions with regulators during submissions and / or product formulary enlisting.
- Responsible for the management and execution of any educational patient support program that is required to be implemented in his / her therapy area, in case this is needed.
Provide Medical Brand Support and MSL Activities
- Lead MSL(s) (when and where applicable) and ensure the provision of fair and balanced information on the benefits and risks of the assigned products, and therapy areas.
- Provide support to MSL(s) (when and where applicable) in their scientific activities and ensure that the agreed upon KPI targets assigned to each MSL are met.
- Provide adequate coaching, development plan execution for the assigned MSL team(when and where applicable).
- Undertake internal training initiatives, to ensure that the MSLs / FMAs, and the sales force have adequate product and therapy area knowledge, to meet NewBridge Pharmaceuticals standards.
- Assist in the development, review, and approval of the scientific content of relevant promotional and non-promotional materials and activities.
- Provide field-based medical support to the assigned Neuropsychiatry portfolio, as required.
Compliance
- Acts with high standards of compliance and ethics.
- Ensures that all the medical interactions and activities with HCPs are informed, balanced, current, and conducted with a high standard of compliance and in accordance with Newbridge Pharmaceutical’s Code of Conduct, and the relevant local and international codes of ethical business practices.
- Adheres to all applicable laws, regulations and NewBridge Pharmaceuticals SOPs, as well as to the high integrity standards as set forth by NewBridge Pharmaceuticals Compliance Department.
