Lead MRI Technologist

Job Description

The Lead Technologist, MRI section works in conjunction with the Director of Imaging, the Institute Administrator, and Imaging medical staff to improve patient and work flow by providing support, education and leadership to the technical staff. Supports the mission and vision of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. The Lead Technologist is responsible for the day to day operations of the MRI section in the Imaging Department.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads and manages shift assignments and coverage for their modality
  • Leads educational and training programs for employees regarding equipment usage, new protocols, patient safety, and career development
  • Leads programs for performance improvement, efficiency and productivity, employee engagement and patient experience
  • Provides an advanced consultative technical resource and assists the Director in the supervision and technical development of the assigned radiology section
  • Assists the diagnostics supervisor with the maintenance of all required section records and the provision of any statistical data that might be required in support of management activities
  • Prepares and checks patient prior to MRI procedure
  • Instructs patient regarding MRI procedures, equipment and exam to ensure understanding and cooperation
  • Performs MRI imaging procedures and adjusts the system and sequences to obtain the most effective identification and presentation of anatomic structures and abnormalities
  • Archives digital data and images for physicians and radiologists to review and dictate
  • Monitors equipment and system operations
  • Sets up and adjusts MRI equipment and systems
  • Troubleshoots problems related to image quality and reports unresolved problems or issues to technical staff
  • Ensures that exam rooms are clean and equipped with appropriate supplies and equipment required for each patient
  • Ensures that a safe environment is maintained during MRI exam
  • Takes responsibility for patient radiation safety by following established guidelines and protocol
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Radiography, or graduation from an accredited diploma program (minimum three (3) year curriculum), is required or
  • Graduation from an accredited Radiography program (minimum two (2) years) and registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist, The Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists, UK HPC, or equivalent, is required.
  • Graduation from an accredited Radiology program is preferred
  • Master’s degree in Medical Imaging or relevant clinical master’s degree in a related field is preferred

Experience

  • Minimum of four (4) years post graduate experience in MRI in an acute care hospital (of which not less than two (2) years experience as a senior MRI Radiographer in an acute care hospital), is required

Certification and Licensure

  • Current national license is required

Job Specific Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively with physicians and radiologists to coordinate proper imaging of patients
  • Ability to work independently with little or no direct supervision
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to speak and write in English is required
  • Ability to speak and write in Arabic is preferred
