Danat Al Emarat is a world-class specialty women’s and children’s hospital in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. It offers advanced medical services across specialties including Neonatology, Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, and Women’s Health. The hospital is one of the very few to encompass a dedicated Fetal Medicine Department along with a full-fledged Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in the UAE. This has established Danat Al Emarat as a regional referral center for women with high-risk pregnancies, supported by its Level III NICU providing care for the most fragile newborns.

The Biomedical Engineer oversees the installation, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of a wide range of medical equipment, including patient monitors, imaging systems, ventilators, infusion pumps, and life-support devices. They work closely with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to assess equipment needs, provide technical support, and ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the assessment and procurement of various medical equipment and devices.
  • Inspects and documents medical equipment identification data and labels the equipment with appropriate numerical tags.
  • Enters all patient documentation information into the biomedical asset management software system.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on medical equipment and adheres to specific manufacturer guidelines for testing when applicable.
  • Employs required tests and measures the equipment’s performance to ensure equipment is functioning within required parameters.
  • Utilizes various pieces of diagnostic test equipment to ensure proper operational and safety requirements are maintained.
  • Calibrates medical equipment in alignment with the manufacturer’s calibration procedures.
  • Repairs medical equipment by analyzing and troubleshooting equipment malfunctions while utilizing electronic schematics, diagnostic testing equipment and manufacturer’s technical literature.
  • Identifies faulty circuits, systems, and parts and orders, receive, and replace the faulty components in order to return medical equipment to full operating potential.
  • Prepares and completes all required documentation including work orders, historic documentation and required correspondence.
  • Enters required informational data into the biomedical asset management software system.
  • Operates and updates medical equipment maintenance library and ensures that a copy of technical literature is included in the library for all equipment on which maintenance is performed.
  • Inspects all maintenance actions including but not limited to repairs, preventive maintenance, calibrations and modifications.
  • Assists the clinical team in obtaining their proper training and orientation required to well utilize their medical equipment and devices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering.
