The IV Infusion Nurse provides safe, accurate, and patient‑centered infusion therapy in the Infusion Clinic under the supervision of the Nurse Manager and in coordination with the ordering physician. The nurse delivers a wide range of IV, subcutaneous, and intramuscular therapies, ensures close monitoring for adverse reactions, and facilitates smooth patient flow from scheduling to post‑infusion discharge.
Responsibilities
- Clinical Care & Infusion Administration
- Administer ordered therapies including:
- Antibiotics, hydration, iron therapy
- Biotherapy & biologics (e.g., Remicade, Rituxan, Tocilizumab, Abatacept)
- IV pain medications (e.g., Paracetamol, Ketorolac)
- IV steroids
- Prepare, initiate, monitor, and discontinue IV infusions according to established protocols.
- Observe patients during and after infusions for any adverse reactions and take appropriate action.
- Ensure timely and accurate documentation of medication type, dose, route, frequency, and duration in the electronic medical record.
- Patient Assessment & Safety Monitoring
- Assess patient readiness for infusion based on physician evaluation and clinical guidelines.
- Monitor vital signs, infusion tolerance, and overall patient safety.
- Provide patient education on pre‑ and post‑infusion care.
- Coordination of Care
- Coordinate with insurance providers to obtain required authorizations.
- Contact patients to schedule infusion appointments upon approval.
- Collaborate with physicians, pharmacy, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure accurate and timely care.
- Workflow & Clinic Operations
- Support smooth patient flow in the infusion clinic located on the second floor.
- Adhere to clinic operational hours (Monday-Friday, 08:00-17:30).
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain compliance with safety standards.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) with valid licensure.
- Experience in IV therapy, infusion administration, or acute care preferred.
- Competency in managing IV lines, infusion pumps, and emergency responses.
- Strong assessment, communication, and documentation skills.
