Job Description
- Under the direct supervision of the Registered Nursing Staff, will deliver patient care and service which is safe and timely.
- All direct patient care provided by healthcare assistants should be toward adult patients who do not require critical care or high-dependency care.
- Healthcare assistants shall not have a role in the provision of any invasive procedure.
- Identify opportunities for improvement and escalate accordingly reflective of the chain of command.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned within his/her scope and ability.
- Support the escort of patients within the Clinical setting.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, grooming, toileting, and feeding, under the supervision of licensed nursing staff.
- Perform manual handling tasks, such as patient transfers and mobility, based on competency and experience.
- Perform and record basic vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, oxygen saturation) as delegated.
- Always maintain patient confidentiality and data privacy.
- Provide non-invasive, supportive care to patients with tracheostomies under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, in accordance with approved competencies.
- Engage in play activities with pediatric patients under the supervision and guidance of licensed nurses and therapists, where appropriate.
- Monitor and promptly report any changes or concerns in patients’ conditions to licensed nursing staff.
- Support patients during physical, occupational, or speech therapy sessions as directed by healthcare professionals.
- Support patients within the care environment by promoting comfort, cleanliness, and readiness of personal spaces, in collaboration with designated facility support services.
- Communicate effectively with patients and their families, provide emotional support, and relay pertinent information to nursing staff.
- Stock patient rooms with appropriate supplies and ensure medical equipment is cleaned and maintained as required.
- Participate in patients’ social activities to enhance their quality of life.
- Assist patients and their families with housekeeping, laundry services, food preparation, and errands as needed.
- Respond promptly to emergency situations by immediately notifying licensed nursing staff and activating appropriate assistance in line with organizational policies and procedures.
Contribute to performance improvement and continuous quality improvement initiatives within the healthcare setting.
