JOB SUMMARY

Exercise physiology is the use of physical activity for therapy, treatment, and prevention of chronic diseases. Responsible for safe implementation of standardized evidence-based practice specific to each individual. The assessment criteria and evaluation are based on physiological, biomechanical and physical functional wellbeing. Therapy includes Implementation of lifestyle modification and behaviour pattern changes to facilitate physical wellbeing.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs evaluation of patient specific needs and formulate a comprehensive holistic exercise physiology treatment plan.
  • Reviews and analyses patient chart for pertinent medical history, including test results and x-ray reports.
  • Establishes treatment goals and formulates a treatment plan based on findings and patient’s goals.
  • Educate the patient and family members on the patient’s functional status, predicted outcomes, appropriate preventative and or exercise physiology specific details for discharge purposes.
  • Administers treatment programs and services utilizing best evidence for skilled techniques and interventions related to biomechanics and functional wellbeing.
  • Monitor patient’s medical status, review and revise treatment plans, provide intervention if regression occurs and involve relevant health professionals.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to determine best outcome for the patient.
  • Document required information pertinent to patient in an efficient and timely manner in the patient medical record following hospitals standards.
  • Ensure all clinical outcomes are met from departmental and institutional demands
  • Achieve productivity metrics for Exercise Physiology.
  • Participates in the supervision of students assigned to clinical rotation and/or staff development programs
  • Work within own scope of professional competence in line with principles of best practice, professional conduct and clinical governance.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Actively participates in continuous improvement.

Education

  • Bachelors’ degree in Exercise Physiology qualification or equivalency
  • Bachelor’s degree in Sport and Exercise Science (Preferred)

Experience

  • Minimum of 3-5years experience ideally based in acute care hospitals or outpatient rehabilitation institutions with same diagnosis seen in acute care hospitals or rehabilitation facilities is required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years post graduate experience as an Sports Therapist in relevant experience with patients with same diagnosis seen in acute care hospitals or rehabilitation facilities is required.

Certification and Licensure

Current national license or membership in a recognized international agency is required

  • Knowledge of principles, methods and procedures for diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of physical dysfunctions

  • Ability to interpret clinical data for the establishment and implementation of appropriate patient treatment
  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Ability to speak and write in English is required
  • Ability to speak and write in both English and Arabic is preferred
