ERM & PATIENT SAFETY SPECIALIST

Job Description

The ERM AND Patient Safety Specialist collaborate in managing an effective occurrence reporting process within the healthcare organization, ensuring all reported events are thoroughly reviewed, investigated, and actioned. This role supports departments in complete case review audits and promotes a just culture in the organization. The specialist develops and implements risk management training programs, and participates in departmental projects and committees, and oversees the hospital.-wide incident reporting and risk registry systems.

Operational Roles & Responsibilities

  • Promote a just culture where errors and nearmisses are openly discussed and used as learning opportunities
  • Develop and implement a risk management training program aimed at all staff and as per the need of the audience
  • Perform the duties necessary to support and achieve risk management and patient safety needs and standards and ensure that the facility is in compliance with all government and local laws and accreditation standards
  • Follow all hospital policies and procedures and perform other assigned tasks and duties
  • Participate in relevant committees and task forces
  • Manage the hospitalwide incident reporting system and risk registry systems occurrence variance reporting system
  • Document monitor and analyze patient safety events and put an action plan to prevent reoccurrence
  • Manage the event reporting process as designed within the hospital Ensure all reported events are analyzed reviewed corrected and actioned
  • Complete Case Review audits as part of ongoing investigations and as per the hospital policy

Education

Required: Bachelor’s degree in healthcare management, nursing, or any healthcare science/ allied health. Preferred: Master’s degree in health administration, healthcare quality, or any related field.

Certifications

REQUIRED: .- Certified Professional Healthcare Quality (CPHQ). .- Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) / Certified Professional in Health Care Risk Management (CPHRM). PREFERRED: Additional Quality related certifications (i.e., Lean Six Sigma, Just Culture, etc.).

Years of Experience

Minimum 9 years of clinical working experience within an accredited healthcare facility, with a minimum of 5 years focused on quality improvement and patient safety within the quality department and a minimum of 3 years in risk management.
