KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist the dentist / surgeon in all aspects of the practice.
- Attend to the patient with such a warm reception, with a “SMILE”.
(From waiting room to the surgery: surgery to the reception)
- Cooperate with the receptionist: paper works like referrals, Insurance Cards, ICD, invoices, and approvals.
- Carry on telephone manner as per procedure and policy.
- Practice the universal precaution to maintain the good infection control in every aspect of the clinical practice.
- Maintain availability of stocks and other needed items in the surgery.
- Participate in patient and family education to help patients and families to better understand and participate in their care and make well informed care decisions.
Daily Procedures:
- Start Up:
- Wear appropriate uniform, clean and ironed. Switch on surgery / unit and computer, X Ray. Check appointment and laboratory works.
- Run through the 3:1 and motors to remove any stagnant water (this must be done for at least 2 minutes) flush water into spittoon. Ensure a clean environment and set for the first patient.
- During the day:
- Assist the surgeon throughout day, observe cross infection control procedure by universal precaution
- Be present in the surgery during all operating procedures, talk to patient as necessary when the dentist is out for some reasons
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (S.O.P) when using all equipment, ask when unsure.
- Maintain stocks, note any item that are less, needs refill.
- Keep patient record updated: invoices and charges / maintain lab work diary.
3. End of day:
- Accomplish daily statistics report, check patient’s notes records / files as necessary.
- Run headpieces and 3:1 into spittoon, clean and disinfect aspirator, its tubing and the spittoon with disinfectant. Flush the aspirator / suction tubing’s with water several times.
- Remove and clean “amalgam” traps and other residues.
- Collect “amalgam waste” in a sealed container with water.
- Clean / Wipe and disinfect the dental chair with alcohol-free disinfectant, unit and accessories with alcohol base disinfectant.
- Clean sink with soap and water thoroughly. Clean and disinfect all work surfaces thoroughly with alcohol base disinfectant
- Dispose all clinical waste (yellow bag), Reline bins, brush and mop the floor (with the aid of the janitor).
- Check next day’s appointment.
- Switch off computer and all equipment.
Weekly Procedures
- Clean all displays in practice
Check stocks in the surgery, note requisitions
- Clean operating chair / stools – top and bottom
Clean all suction tubes and other bottles outside and in, X-ray machine – arms and head, and other dental equipments in the surgery.
- Clean cupboard fronts, skirting boards, pictures and mirrors, window sills, ceiling lights, any ledges and shelves
- Clean and reline all cupboards and drawers.
- Hygiene surgery as on Rota: Clean – chair, stools, light, skirting etc
Prepare weekly stat for the weekly meeting
- Check your lab book, make sure all the above points is done.
Monthly Procedures:
- Stock Order: Request form completed for any new dental material request, given to stock controller / material coordinator.
- Sharpe: Check (3/4 full) for disposal.
- Statistics: Prepare monthly statistics (Patients / Gross Income )
