Consultant Interventional Cardiologist

Job Purpose

Responsible for delivering comprehensive and advanced cardiology care, including the assessment, diagnosis, investigation, and treatment of patients with cardiovascular conditions. The role requires maintaining the highest standards of clinical excellence, patient safety, and evidence-based practice while actively contributing to quality improvement initiatives, medical education, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct outpatient clinics according to the approved schedule and provide specialized cardiology consultations.
• Assess, diagnose, and manage patients presenting with cardiovascular diseases and related conditions.
• Determine the need for hospital admission and oversee inpatient care within granted clinical privileges.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, including medications, interventions, and preventive strategies.
• Perform and supervise diagnostic and interventional cardiology procedures as per credentialing and professional privileges.
• Monitor patient progress, evaluate treatment outcomes, and modify management plans when necessary.
• Explain diagnoses, treatment options, procedures, and prognoses to patients and their families, ensuring informed decision-making.
• Collaborate with physicians from other specialties and coordinate referrals when required.
• Conduct regular inpatient rounds and provide ongoing clinical management for admitted patients.
• Ensure accurate, timely, and complete documentation of patient records in compliance with established healthcare standards.
• Review and validate clinical documentation prepared by junior medical staff involved in patient care.
• Prepare and approve discharge summaries, medical reports, and follow-up plans.
• Provide leadership, guidance, and supervision to physicians, residents, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals.
• Participate in quality assurance, patient safety, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Contribute to the development and review of clinical policies, protocols, and practice guidelines.
• Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and organizational projects as assigned.
• Ensure adherence to ethical principles, professional standards, and applicable healthcare regulations.
• Participate in on-call coverage and respond to emergency situations when required.
• Identify and report medico-legal cases according to organizational and regulatory requirements.
• Contribute to academic, research, and educational activities within the department.
• Provide patient and community education on cardiovascular health, disease prevention, and healthy lifestyle practices.
• Support the training and supervision of interns, residents, fellows, and other healthcare trainees.
• Maintain ongoing professional development through continuing medical education and training activities.
• Promote a patient-centered approach that emphasizes compassion, respect, dignity, and high-quality care.
• Perform additional duties related to the specialty as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

• Medical degree from an accredited institution recognized by the relevant medical authority.
• Completion of internship and residency training in Cardiology.
• Advanced postgraduate qualification in Cardiology or a related specialty.

Experience

• Minimum of three years of independent clinical practice as an Interventional Cardiologist following completion of specialty training.
• Experience in a tertiary care or highly specialized healthcare environment is preferred.
• Additional fellowship or subspecialty training in Interventional Cardiology is highly desirable.

Licensure & Certifications

• Board Certification, Fellowship, or equivalent specialist qualification in Cardiology.
• Valid professional license and registration from the country of practice.
• Eligibility for registration and clinical privileging according to the requirements of the relevant healthcare regulatory authority.
• Evidence of continuing professional development and participation in specialty-related training programs.
