Job Description
Assists physicians in the physiological monitoring of patients and the preparation of drugs, fluids, anesthetics and equipment ancillary to operative intervention of other procedures requiring anesthesia; sets up, operates and maintains monitoring and anesthesia equipment.
Responsibilities
- Consults with and keeps anesthesiologist informed of activities, needs and problems.
- Complies with established anesthesia standards. Implements and maintains established department/hospital policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection control processes. Interprets these to subordinate personnel.
- Follows established routines and utilizes supplies and equipment in a cost-effective manner.
- Maintains a clean, orderly and safe environment for patients and personnel.
- Assists anesthesiologist with orientation, instruction/training and supervision of subordinate personnel. Supervises new recruits.
- Cooperates with other personnel to achieve department objectives and maintains good employee, interdepartmental and public relations.
- Maintains patients’ rights and confidentiality of patient’s information and abides by established communications code.
- Attends required meetings, in service education program, maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations.
- Performs other tasks such as:
- Consulting operating room schedule to determine equipment needs for special procedures, preparing operating room for indicated procedure to include setting up and calibrating monitoring devices during intervention.
- Assisting anesthesiologist in inserting arterial catheter needles attach to transducers and flush with saline solution.
- Setting up and attaching blood warmers and blood pumping apparatus to patients.
- Positioning patients on heating and cooling mattresses and adjust in accordance with the instructions given; attaches mattresses to hypothermia machine and regulate proper temperature.
- Assisting anesthesiologist in the preparation and labeling of syringes of anesthetic and adjuvant drugs and in the preparation of intravenous drips of medications for insertion into infusion apparatus; setting up blood and fluids with appropriate filters, sets and pumping devices preparatory to infusion as instructed.
- Cleaning, repairing and performing routing preventive maintenance on equipment to ensure proper functioning.
- Checking patient with anesthetist upon arrival in surgery, placing patients on operating table and positioning them with assistance of anesthetist. Secures patients safely on table.
- Hooking patients to monitor and assist in induction of anesthesia.
- Initiating and completion of operating room records including intra-operative notices.
- Takes on call duties as per Rota. Handles emergencies and applies appropriate protocol. Maintains complete operating room record for each patient procedure.
- Assists in care and maintenance of departmental supplies, equipment facilities. Reports defective supplies and malfunctioning equipment to Supervisor. Requests maintenance and repair. Documents maintenance.
Qualifications
- Diploma of Anesthesia from an accredited school.
- Minimum 2 Years’ Experience after graduation.
- Valid MOH License.
- Fluency in both English/Arabic, written, reading and spoken.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience in preventive maintenance of anesthesia and respiratory equipment required.
- Conversant with both National & International Health Care Quality Standards.
