Role Purpose
Within the limits of his/her delineated clinical privileges, to manage patients for whom he/she is responsible for providing the highest level of clinical care and expertise in pre-operative assessment including pre-Anesthesia consultations and visits, Anesthesia management of intra-operative and post-operative care, under supervision of consultant in full compliance to Dallah Hospital Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Takes full responsibility for monitoring and care of patients (that is compassionate, appropriate & effective) attending his/her allocated Anesthesia Clinics for preoperative assessment.
- General Anesthesia for major, moderate and minor surgeries for adults and children.
- Provides consultation and administer anesthesia with the full range of Anesthesia methods and techniques.
- Maintains high-level professional performance according to Hospital standards.
- Provides technical advice and guidance to Anesthesia technicians and nursing staff and as required provides orientation / training in new techniques and procedures.
- He should supervise the work, performance and efficiency of the work & duties of Anesthesia technicians during his duty hours or on-call.
- Interview patients scheduled for surgery to assess and develop an Anesthesia care plan and to establish rapport and allay fear and apprehension.
- Sees patients post operatively to evaluate and document recovery from Anesthesia, to assess complications and make recommendations as indicated.
- Keeps current with new procedures and techniques in the field of Anesthesia.
- Stands on-call duty as assigned by Chief Anesthesia for emergency surgery, obstetrics and/or medical procedures.
- To evaluate patients in the Accident and Emergency Room at the request of A/E Room Physicians.
- Provides on-call coverage on a rotation basis. When on-call, the specialist must be physically present at all times to respond to the requests of the physicians / nurses to evaluate patients.
- Writing clinical notes related to anesthesia in patients’ medical records as per the hospital policy.
- Demonstrates interpersonal & communication skills that establish & maintain professional relationships with patients, families, co-workers & other members of healthcare team.
- Able to demonstrate both understanding of contexts and systems in which health care is provided and ability to apply this knowledge to improve and optimize health care.
- Able to use scientific evidence and methods to investigate, evaluate and improve patient care practices
- Demonstrates cost-conscious care including avoiding the overuse and misuse of diagnostic tests and treatment.
- Demonstrates commitment to continuous professional development, ethical practice, understanding & sensitivity to diversity & responsible attitude towards other staff and patients
- Develops and co-ordinates the Quality Improvement. Program within his/her area of responsibilities.
- Participate in patient and family education to help patients and families to better understand and participate in their care and make well informed care decisions.
- Performs any other duties within the range of his/her professional knowledge and skills as directed by the Head of Anesthesia or the Chief of Medical Staff.

Necessary Knowledge and Experience
Essential: Minimum of 3 years since acquisition of
essential postgraduate qualification.
Education and Certification Requirements
Essential:
- Basic Medical Degree from a recognized accredited institution.
- MSc or equivalent in the specialty.
- SCFHS License in Anesthesiology as Registrar.
Skills
Essential: Able to perform all general Anesthesia techniques. Able to perform local analgesia techniques. Special Anesthesia techniques (pediatrics, neuro, cardiothoracic with direct supervision by Anesthesia consultant)
