Job Description
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations to assess mental health conditions through interviews, patient history, and diagnostic tests.
- Diagnose a wide range of psychiatric disorders, including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, and neurocognitive disorders.
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on a thorough understanding of the patient’s symptoms, history, and mental health needs.
- Conduct regular follow-ups to assess patient progress and modify treatment plans accordingly.
- Prescribe appropriate psychiatric medications, monitor their effectiveness, and manage any side effects.
- Provide psychotherapy (e.g., Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)) or collaborate with other therapists for additional therapeutic modalities.
- Recommend other treatment interventions as appropriate, such as electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), or other forms of brain stimulation.
- Ensure the continuity of care for patients through follow-up appointments, referrals, and coordination with other healthcare providers.
- Provide a compassionate and nonjudgmental environment for patients to discuss their concerns and mental health symptoms.
- Monitor patient safety, particularly in acute psychiatric conditions, and manage crisis situations
- Support patients through therapeutic and medication management to help improve their quality of life.
- Ensure patient confidentiality and adhere to ethical and legal standards in the treatment of mental health conditions.
- Prescribes medication and administer treatments. Provide efficient and effective medical care following accepted professional clinical guidelines and standards of care and as per assigned clinical privileges.
- Refers the patients under his / her care to other specialties when appropriate and indicated.
- Responds to inpatient consultations and outpatient referrals by the hospital colleagues within a timeframe that is appropriate to the clinical circumstances and according to hospital policies.
- Provides hands off / hand over to other colleagues when cross covering the service or transferring care.
- For the inpatient service, the provider will give clear guidance to the on-duty RMO on each patient management and ensure that that the RMO is aware of the plan of care, and will provide telephonic advice when needed.
- Ensures that accurate and complete medical records are maintained for his/her patients, including admission assessments, progress notes, infection notifications and discharge summaries, according to hospital policy. Ensures that discharge summaries are completed by the team, ideally at the time of discharge.
- Outpatient clinics will be conducted as mutually agreed in consultation with other colleagues in the department.
- Gives full explanation to the patients about medical condition, procedures and treatments and obtains informed consent from patients before undertaking procedures in accordance with the FUH policy. Keeps family or significant others informed, where possible, with the patient’s consent.
- Contributes to the development of relevant departmental / Section plans and participate in relevant projects as directed by Chairperson of Department / Section Head.
- Reviews any plan for new technology or provision of service with the Chairperson of Department / Section Head before progression.
- Demonstrates an awareness of insurance regulations and compensation and the implications on patient management associated with this.
- Participates in the education of medical / nursing students, resident trainees and junior doctors as assigned by the Chairperson of Department / Section Head or their designee.
- Contributes to the departmental clinical quality assurance system, including clinical audit, review of patient care, updating clinical guidelines etc.
- Attends departmental and organizational meetings as scheduled.
- Be available to cover their colleagues when they are sick or on leave (within the constraints of his / her existing workload).
- Adheres to departmental, organizational policies and procedures in alignment with DHA and JCI standards.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills:
- MBBS with MD/DNB or equivalent in Psychiatry
- DHA License/Eligibility as Specialist
- Minimum 5 years’ post-specialization experience in busy Hospital Setup
- Proven expertise in Inpatient Psychiatry within a reputed UAE hospital
- Strong experience in psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, crisis intervention, treatment planning, and multidisciplinary patient care
- Excellent clinical judgment and communication skills
- Patient-centered approach with a commitment to quality and clinical excellence
- Arabic communication speaking are essential
