Job Description

 The role is responsible for independent or under the supervision of Senior Orthoptist conducting all interventions related to various ocular problems.

Responsibilities



•   Maintains the sufficient inventory of material supplies and equipment for the performance of duties 
•   Reports shortage of materials to supervisor at earliest convenience, ordering and approving replenishments when necessary 
•   Conducts Oculomotor/Orthoptic assessment and follow-up i.e. examination, non-surgical treatment and follow-up of patients with strabismus, amblyopia, oculomotor and related abnormalities 
•   Performs HESS/LEE charts where applicable, liaising with Maxillo-Facial physicians 
•   Provides Fresnel prisms where applicable for patients 
•   Assess, identify visual problems e.g amblyopia, convergence in and provide treatment/ management 
•   Examines patients with problems related to ocular motility, binocular vision, amblyopia, or strabismus. 
•   Provides instructions to patients or family members concerning diagnoses or treatment plans. 
•   Provides nonsurgical interventions, including corrective lenses, patches, drops, fusion exercises, or stereograms, Fresnel prisms to treat conditions such as strabismus, convergence insufficiency.  
•   Evaluates, diagnose, or treat disorders of the visual system with an emphasis on binocular vision or abnormal eye movements. 
•   Interprets clinical or diagnostic test results. 
•   Develops or use special test and communication techniques to facilitate diagnosis and treatment of children or disabled patients. 


Accountabilities 
• Monitors and develops as necessary quality improvement indicators to ensure continuous quality improvement & compliance with patient care standards. 

 

Qualifications

Experience :-  
Required: 
•   NLT 2 years of relevant post-graduate experience in a hospital setting 

Desired: 
•   N.A. 
 Educational Qualification: Required: 
   â€¢    Bsc degree or equivalent qualification of NLT 3 years duration in Orthoptics. 
•   AND Qualification of 2 year duration leading to registration as an orthoptist with the Health Professional Council in UK/ American Orthptic Council • AND Current National License
