Consultant – Infectious Disease

Job Description

Consultant -Infectious Diseases will provide specialist clinical care, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of infectious diseases in a hospital setting in the UAE. He will work closely with physicians, nursing teams, microbiology, infection prevention and control, pharmacy, and other specialties to ensure high-quality, evidence-based patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide consultant-level assessment and management of patients with infectious diseases.
  • Diagnose and treat complex bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic infections.
  • Manage antimicrobial therapy and participate in antimicrobial stewardship programs.
  • Provide consultation for inpatient and outpatient infectious disease cases.
  • Support the management of sepsis and other serious infectious conditions.
  • Advise on infection prevention, isolation precautions, and outbreak management.
  • Collaborate with microbiology and laboratory teams regarding cultures, susceptibility testing, and diagnostic investigations.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary clinical meetings and case discussions.
  • Provide guidance on infection control policies and healthcare-associated infections.
  • Contribute to education and training of residents, specialists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and comply with hospital policies and UAE healthcare regulations.
  • Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, research, and continuing medical education.

Provide on-call or emergency consultation services as required by the hospital

Qualifications

  • Medical degree (MBBS/MD or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
  • Recognized postgraduate qualification in Infectious Diseases and/or Internal Medicine.
  • Appropriate consultant-level certification recognized by the relevant UAE health authority.
  • Valid eligibility/licensure with the applicable UAE regulatory authority, DOH Abu Dhabi,.
  • Relevant consultant-level clinical experience, preferably in a tertiary-care.
  • Experience in antimicrobial stewardship and infection prevention and control is desirable
  • Experience managing complex and immunocompromised patients is an advantage.
  • Current BLS/ACLS certification, where required by the facility.
